    NCAA March madness

Is Notre Dame in the field? Is Syracuse the overall #1 seed? Where is Gonzaga seeded? Does Cincy have a spot?

All the answers and more on my Bracketology site: Busting Bracketologists

Feel free to discuss all the issues around march madness here too, I'm just better than Joe Lunardi (by a long shot) so I like to get readers chipping in.

Also we doing a S3F Bracket group again?

All I know is, Dayton is on the bubble. Which means, if they don't make the big dance, Mission has to watch New Moon. Suck it, Mission.

I have Dayton as my last team in right now, but they prolly would do them a good service to win a few games

If I was logged in as a guest, and there was an ad for depression medication, in this instance, I might have been tempted to click it.

After last night's pathetic collapse, we're done and I am probably watching New Moon.

Hoping Duke can get that #1 seed out West so that they can play in Jacksonville for the first two rounds. I also find it hilarious that a city on the beaches of Florida is included in the West region.

The 1st and 2nd round sites aren't corelated to any particular region, rather they simply but the top teams into the regions closest to them, so the jacksonville pod winners could go anywhere... (PS no matter the region it looks like duke is locked into jacksonville)

    The wiki explanation:

The first and second round games are played on the first weekend of the tournament, either on Thursday and Saturday or Friday and Sunday.
Since 2002, the tournament has used the so-called pod system, in which the eight first- and second-round sites are distributed around the four regionals. Before the 2002 tournament, all teams playing at a first- or second-round site fed into the same regional tournament. The pod system was designed to limit the early-round travel of as many teams as possible.
In the pod system, each regional bracket is divided into four-team pods. The possible pods by seeding are:

    • Pod #1: 1v16, 8v9
    • Pod #2: 2v15, 7v10
    • Pod #3: 3v14, 6v11
    • Pod #4: 4v13, 5v12

Each of the eight first and second round sites is assigned two pods, where each group of four teams play each other. A host site's pods may be from different regions, and thus the winners of each pod would advance into separate regional tournaments.

That's confusing as hell, yet makes sense. Good to hear that Duke is pretty much locked into Jax, haven't had a chance to see em play in person since I moved from NC.

    Re: March madness

Just one quick observation: Why a higher seed for Richmond than for Butler despite the latter's higher RPI? I get that the Atlantic 10 > Horizon League, but Butler has grown out of its league.

    Re: March madness

Butler finished off Wright State to win the Horizon. If I have this correct, the bubble teams should be done worrying about a small conference school stealing a spot from another school besides one in its own conference. Unless someone thinks Kent State or Akron from the MAC is a lock.

    Re: March madness

you sir are correct... I actually will have an updated bracket up in a hr or so!!!

As for Butler vs Richmond is that Richmond has a better record against the RPI top 50 (remember Butler's win vs Ohio State was without Evan Turner) and plays in the better conference

    Re: March madness

Butler's win against Ohio State was also tainted by HORRID officiated. But I'm just bitter about that.

Noon college basketball is perhaps the best invention of all time. It makes spring feel so much closer.

It's even better when it's spring break week and you have nothing at all to do.
