By the way, I hope J Five, wherever he is, too is enjoying this victory. I would have hated to watch him fake a congratulatory thread to the Magic fans.

Any real fan would hang himself after his team loses rather than going to CostCo to pretend to get on with their lives.

By the way, awkward speech by Jerry Buss' kid. And we wonder why teams let the crusty old suits handle the talking in those moments.

What I'm not allowed to do is shove the victory down people's throats for smack purposes. But I already have too much humility to do that.
But belittling people for being optimistic is so much more honorable.

And please, don't act you're the most honorable Laker fan here. If they had choked this away, you damn well know you would have declared that you were done with basketball, disappeared from this thread, and left me to take the brunt like last year.

If they had choked it away, you can bet there would be at least one other person who would be a dick about it.

And silence on the first part of what I said means you don't deny it.

    Re: National Basketball Association playoffs

No, it means I had just got home from a 12 hour work day and didn't have the time to type anything more than a one-line snide remark.

But, you are right about the Lakers. I have stated on multiple occasions, whether the Lakers are winning or losing, that I'm nothing more than a casual basketball fan.

Before a month ago I couldn't even name the Lakers' starting 5.

Something about this year's playoffs, even when it looked like the Lakers might get knocked out by Houston, has resurrected my interest though. Who knows if it will stick through next season, but I guess I'll wait and see.

But, all of that aside, it really has little to do with my point as I was speaking about sports in general. How many times did you see me walk away from football or baseball discussions after the Padres and Chargers got knocked out of the playoffs?

Although, for what it's worth, while I can't prove this (not even to myself) I think I would have stuck around in the discussion even if the Lakers lost.

Last year I was doing nothing more than looking at box scores and game results to see if they won or not.

This year I actually watched games and got into more in depth discussions on other boards about the games. Because of it I was a bit more emotionally involved than I was last year (or any year since Magic was still playing, for that matter.)

Like I said, I can't prove to anyone, not even myself, that I would have stuck around in discussions even if LA choked against the Magic, but I think I would have.
