Baseball Slant 800th Win For Nevada Coach

Nevada scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning on an error and a wild pitch to beat Oregon 6-5 Thursday and give Wolf Pack coach Gary Powers his 800th career victory.

Powers, who improved his 27-year career record to 800-629-4, said his players and assistants deserve all the credit.

"I don't even like to talk about 800 wins or anything like that," Powers told the Nevada Appeal. "It's not about me. It's about the players who play between the white lines. ... I haven't throw a pitch or gotten a hit."

The Wolf Pack (5-8) left 12 runners on base, committed two errors and hit five Oregon hitters. The Ducks, playing baseball this season for the first time in 28 years, fell to 6-7.

Westley Moss singled in the eighth and later scored on a two-out wild pitch to tie the score. Matt Bowman, who also singled in the inning, scored the go-ahead run when a ground ball off the bat of Michael Turay bounced off Oregon third baseman John Adamson.
800 wins is impressive in any sport!

    Well done indeed.
