Baseball Slant The NFL is on crack and delusional (anti-social networking)

This is truly worth the BS icon.

Why Twitter Scares The NFL - Forbes.com

In preparation for the upcoming season, the NFL has instituted a set of new guidelines attempting to restrict how fans can use social media applications like Facebook and Twitter to talk about professional football. Under the rules, the NFL says fans are encouraged to circulate messages about teams and players, but cannot post play-by-play accounts of actual games.
    and

If the NFL identifies fans violating the new rules, league officials say they'll contact them and tell them to stop posting text or video. If fans refuse, the league will consider filing a lawsuit, McCarthy said.
    good luck with that

The NFL "has no property right over fans' tweets," says Wendy Seltzer, a fellow at Harvard's Berkman Center for Internet and Society. Fans have the same right guaranteed by the First Amendment to publish accounts of football games, even in play-by-play form, that any news organization would, she argues.
It's bad enough they aren't going to lift the blackout restrictions this seasons even though many teams won't sell out games (meaning locals won't be able to watch it on TV), but now they're going down a pretty ridiculous road IMHO. They have no power over social networking or anything like that.

They can make up all the rules they want within the league, but they can't just make up shit for real world people to follow. Could you imagine KoZ going to jail because he tweeted about the Steelers running out the clock in the 4th quarter or something about Ben's partying habits? I mean really...suck it NFL.

The NFL is flat out moronic. I know a site, won't give the name as they don't need anymore heat, that I quasi-worked with that got heat because they used logos on their pages in avatars and such. Yeah yeah trademarks and all that, but this was a small site, smaller than us, and they received cease and desist letters.

Maybe they won't hunt everyone down, but I do expect them fully to go after the big tweeters who have a large following and are taking away their sweet sweet internet ad revenue stream.

What has three letters, has a dog fighter in the league, and are complete dicks? The NFL.

An option if your game is blacked out - NFC North - ESPN

The league announced Thursday that it will stream blacked-out games on a delayed basis at NFL.com at no charge. It’s not ideal -- the earliest you can start the stream is midnight on the day of the game -- but it’s the best you’re going to do with a league intent on protecting the sanctity of its game-day experience.
how noble of the NFL. They're certainly trying to live up to the No Fun League moniker, eh?
