Giantsfanatic is ready to declare JT O'Sullivan this years sleeper!

The 49ers have named J.T. O'Sullivan as their starting quarterback for the regular-season opener, coach Mike Nolan told reporters Friday.

The long-anticipated announcement comes as no surprise after O'Sullivan's impressive performance Thursday night against the Chicago Bears in the 49ers' third exhibition game. O'Sullivan had been working with the first-team offense since Aug. 6, moving past former starter and 2005 No. 1 overall draft choice Alex Smith on the depth chart.

"J.T. O'Sullivan will be our starting quarterback going into the season and I'm expecting him to succeed," Nolan said Friday. "I'm very confident J.T. is at the point where he's our best man for the job right now."

O'Sullivan, 29, has never started a regular-season NFL game. Smith, 24, was the starter until a shoulder injury limited him to seven games in 2007.

Alex Smith should be the starter. He's being made a scapegoat for the incompetence of Mike Nolan's offensive skills. Id like to see a young QB have FOUR different systems in three years and expect to be jesus. Now watch me be more enraged with the Niners than I am with the Mariners.

Other than the fact that ****ing Mike Nolan is an idiot and likes to stunt the growth of a #1 overall pick with 4 different systems in 3 years or is it the fact that just because a journey man QB has a decent preseason and just happens to be Martz's boy from a losing waste of a franchise that is the Matt Millen "I'm worse than Steve" Lyons? So the niners seriously think that they are going to win 6 games with a guy that isn't even great at anything. Even in college?!?!?
