Yeah. But what were their odds of getting a top 2 pick? 40 percent? That's pretty damn good. The NBA is allowing the teams to crap all over something called integrity. That's not fair to the fanbase in Miami.

    1) Why are teams not able to tank in other sports?

    and

    2) If a draft lottery is supposed to be a deterrant to bad teams tanking why are the Heat still doing it with the system in place?
well, in baseball it doesnt matter because the draft is so long for one, and two its such a big crapshoot anyways. In the NHL, I cant say because I dont follow it nor do i really care about hockey.

In the NFL, there is the little problem that high draft picks cost way more money. The miami dolphins really wanted no part of that #1 pick, and neither did anyone else really this year (or in many of the previous years). Currently the NFL has the rookies getting so much cash as an early draft pick. so that is an incentive not to tank.

BTW, the bulls need to take derrick rose. Hinrich sucks and needs to be shown the door. Rose is a great point guard and would be of more use than Beasly.

What happened in the end is irrelevant.

The Heat clearly thought tanking gave them an added advantage if they were doing it.

If we're trying to prevent teams from tanking here it's obviously not effective.

That doesn't support your argument because college football should have some sort of playoff system.

Doesn't change the fact that the #1 pick in baseball is still better than later picks.

The #1 pick in basketball doesn't cost much more than other picks? (Honest question.)

Any sport that picks who gets the #1 pick the same way as they pick the winning numbers for the PowerBall doesn't sit right to me.

Lest we forget the whole "frozen envelope/ping pong ball" fiasco with the Knicks and Pat Ewing. Shenanigans!

not necessarily. in baseball, the number one pick isnt always the best prospect. it also depends on signability more than anything else. I mean, the tigers number one pick dropped from his very high pick to #22 overall due to signing issues alone. There was no other reason he wasnt selected in the top 5.

the NBA has a slotted system. There is an increase obviously from number 1, but its not nearly the same as it was like football. you can thank david stern for ramming that one through.

Wolves pick 3rd.. To bad they could not have knocked the Bulls to 3rd. Now the question is who will they draft?

It is absolutely relevant since that's what we are talking about here. The Heat took a chance and it failed. They still sucked regardless! Its not about preventing teams from tanking but not rewarding them for tanking. Teams are starting to learn that it doesn't really matter. If they were under any other draft rules, they would be rewarded with the first pick for doing so which is why the lottery makes perfect sense. Basketball is the easiest sport to tank because it only takes five guys to do it.

I think Heat fans care more about having the best shot at Rose or Beasley than about Chris Quinn giving his 100% effort to inadvertently foil that shot. A lot of fans don't mind tanking. Just ask Houston Texans fans during the Reggie Bush sweepstakes.
