    George Mikan

    R.I.P.

George Mikan, professional basketball's first dominant big man who led the Minneapolis Lakers to five NBA championships, has died, family members said today. He was 80.
George Mikan was one of the league's first superstars. It's just a shame that David Stern's greed got in the way, or Mikan would have been able to enjoy life for a little longer.

Care to elaborate for those of us that don't know what you're talking about?

Maybe I am blowing it out of proportion, but I think it's pretty sad. Mikan was forced to sell his MVP trophy to pay for his medicare, because pre-1965 retired NBA athletes have a joke of retirement benefits.. just to save a buck, hence my comments.

For my money, David Stern is a sleezball and will burn in hell.

For guy who hates the way Shaq treats the game, he did a classy thing last night by offering to pay for Mikan's funeral. More players should fork over some of their salaries to help these old timers out. Without these guys, there is no NBA. Same should go to the others sports.

Mikan was the 1st big star in the NBA. Before Shaq, before Magic, before Wilt, before Cousy, before Russell.....etc....etc.... they should pay tribute to this guy, he was dominant in the low block and had a good mid range J.
