NBA reps will return to Vegas to scout All-Star locations

    Full Story

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- NBA officials will return to Las Vegas next week to scout potential venues as part of the city's bid to host the league's 2007 All-Star game.

Las Vegas is attempting to become the first city without an NBA team to hold the All-Star game. Memphis, Tenn., is the only other city with a confirmed interest in hosting the All-Star weekend in 2007 or 2008. New Orleans and Charlotte, N.C., also have been mentioned as possible bidders.
You know Vegas could be a dangerous place for the All-Star game. But it would add excitment, you know what would be better be like NASCAR and offer 1 Million to the winner of the Dunk Contest. Imagine all the people that would enter that.

    TSSL: Seattle Mariners 2006-2029, Pittsburgh Pirates 2030-present (209-277, 5 division titles w/SEA, 1 championship w/SEA)

I honestly can't think of one single good reason to have the All Star Game in Vegas.

Put it in Charlotte. They have a brand new stadium.

I think it's great that the NBA has an ASG in Vegas. Let the players have a good time. All-Star Game is a place where everyone can have a good time.

Im all for having a good time for the players. But put in a place like China or Argentina, they could have just as much fun minus the gambling.

China or Argentina make 1000x less sense than Vegas. At least Vegas is in North America.

You think Yao Ming in his home land for the all-star game is 1000x less sense than a player getting into trouble in Vegas?

No, I think that the NBA is based in the US (with one canadian team). The allstar game goes to the people who support the sport, the American fans. Why in the HELL would we go to some nation halfway around the planet to have the All-Star game? One chinese player out of the 450 players in the league does not qualify as a good reason to go to China.

Stern Always wanted to go global. I wouldnt rule it out completely. But i see where your coming from. Theres a lot of international players now. I just see it happening somehow.

Well, unless there are teams in china and argentina, I can't see why the NBA would do it. The NBA will fail globally if Stern ever pushes hard enough to even try. The guy is an idiot and it would be proven beyond a doubt if he tried such a thing. MLB has a better chance of having a team in Cuba than the NBA does of havinga team outside the US again.

I understand where you are coming from, but the All-Star game is a FAN's game. You don't take that away from the fans by playing the all-star game out of the country. If the NBA wants to expand their following in far away places, they should do an all-star exhibition type game during the offseason, or have more preseason games in far away places (something else I'm not a real fan of), but the All-Star game is as American as Red, White and Blue and shouldn't even be considered to be played elsewhere (other than Toronto, simply cuz they are in the league).

I'd love to see some incentive for the dunk contest and a skills challenge (add onto the 3-point competition).

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

How about some incentive like "do something we didn't see back in the 80's already".

I can honestly say I haven't watched an NBA all-star weekend for a couple years now. Usually on the game and none of the other BS.

This years Dunk Contest was pretty damn good. But bring out 1 Million dollars and more dunkers will show up.

There is no way the players association is going to approve this.
