Thread: The Officiak NFL Draft Thread

I fell into the trap of omparing Benson to Williams. But I'm going to give him a chance, it was a great pick. I wish him the best. That said.

1st round done, 2nd round is upon us. Long 1st round. Overall pretty good, at the very end some players I didn't know of. Heat Miller to the Steelers was no surprise.

I'm excited to see who 49ers are going to take with the 2nd pick ever in the Nolan era.

Not familiar with many OL in this draft. So really don't know who Baas is. But with the highlights I'm seeing. He's alright.

  3. #48
I like this pick. I think it's one more piece to help building up Crennels defense.

  4. #49
Nice pick. Eagles could use another WR with Freddie Mitchell problems, and Owens complaining about contract.

  5. #50
Nice pick up for Lions. With the retirement of Porcher, Cody will help them replace Porcher.

I like what the Niners did. They got the QB, I wanted all along.

Miami needs a RB and you can trade for one (Alexander/Henry/James) but Ronnie Brown is VERY serviceable and i wouldnt have minded if the Niners too them. Mike Williams should have went higher period. Hes a steal at 10.

Jacksonville got a great pick in 1st round too.

I hope the Vikings know what they are doing in drafting Troy Williamson. I hope we don't talk about what would have been 6 years from now about how good Mike Williams is. I know Troy has been a sleeper in recent weeks, but Williams is a guy that can be a sure thing with his height.

Lions got a steal in getting Mike Williams. I wonder if Charlie Rogers will be expendable.

If Roy Williams and Charles Rogers can stay healthy and by adding Mike Williams, WOW. That's a hardcore receiving group. Joey Harrington cannot make up excuses this year.

The ESPN crew were talking about comparing Williamson to Williams. If you want the best player, draft Williams. If you want a guy who can go for the long bomb, draft Williamson.

Williams is that rare 6-4 to 6-5 guy that can stretch the field. I like Williamson as a receiver but hes not as good as the Edwards or Williams of the draft.

Porter: What do you think of Alex Smith? I thought the Niners would draft homeboy Aaron Rodgers. I am not sure how Alex will do in this league. I thought he benefitted from playing with Urban Meyer's offense.

I like Alex Smith a little better than Aaron Rodgers. I would have perfered they take Brown, Benson or Edwards and wait next year for Linehart. but in reality is Smith is the more mobile of the 2 QB's. With the crappy O-Line for the Niners, Smith is the better fit. You could make the same arguement for Rodgers in a Tedford offense (Feeley, Harrington, Carr, etc.).

This could have been a concern for the Niners too given the crappy O-Line. Smith doesnt have any reported injuries for the past.

At this point, Bill Belichick could draft 6 kickers and Freddy Adu, and I would still have faith in him. Reading up on Mankins, who Belichick took a good round or two earlier than most expected, sounds like the typical Belichick/Pioli type. Namely, overachieving hard worker, gives 100% on every play, and some attitude too (at least a mean streak). I like the pancake machine.
