The thing fans need to realize when they see these big contracts in the headlines is it's all incentives based, and 99.9% of the time the player doesn't see anywhere close to that money.

C-Wood'll be seeing a fair bit of that money, and the Packers will see a fair bit of him sitting on his ass injured.

The signing bonus is basically the thing that coutns while the rest is window dressing so the player and agent can crow what great deals they got even though they'll never see the back end.

usually, but he'll still be in line for 18 million of that at the minimum since thats what it is in the first 3 years. which is still a lot for him!

    HAhahahahaha. Brilliant idea, McCarthy.

Packers | Woodson to see action on offense
    Wed, 26 Apr 2006 19:16:41 -0700

Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports according to agent Carl Poston, CB Charles Woodson picked the Green Bay Packers over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because head coach Mike McCarthy agreed to let him play on offense as well as play cornerback. "I think the fact that Brett committed to another year, that was one thing Charles was interested in," Poston said. "Another point is that they agreed to let Charles play offense as well as defense. That proved to be very beneficial to them. They wouldn't let him do that in Oakland." According to Poston, the Buccaneers, coached by Jon Gruden, weren't interested in allowing him to play on offense and wanted him to play safety. McCarthy said that when Woodson visited the Packers April 3, he told Woodson that he would be able to play some wide receiver if he signed in Green Bay. Woodson is expected to start at cornerback opposite CB Al Harris.

****ing guy has a STEEL PLATE IN HIS LEG, and is 30 years old, is getting paid a ton, and you're letting him be a dual threat (though obviously sparingly).

Especially since Javon Walker doesn't want any part of Green Bay anymore.

This whole deal says to me that if Brett hadn't come back, they weren't going to do anything in FA. Pretty coincidental that this deal comes right after Brett agreed to come back.

Charles Woodson, however, is boiling over with health issues, and making him run routes sure isn't the way to aid him in that. They invested a good amount of money in him and want him to be their #2 cornerback and potentially the #1, when he's got injury issues and a steel plate in his leg hampering him... so the logical choice is not to make him a wide receiver, particularly when it'll be wholly irrelevant to the team's success.

Javon Walker is expected to be traded before the start of the NFL draft, with the Broncos and Saints being the leading pursuers...

and now Donald Driver wants out.
Packers | Driver disgruntled over team's failure to redo contract
    Thu, 27 Apr 2006 12:47:01 -0700

Michael Smith, of ESPN.com, reports Green Bay Packers WR Donald Driver is mad that the team has not re-done his deal and wants to be traded or released.

No wonder they're letting C-Wood play offense.

Trade Walker to the Broncos for Ashley Lelie and Donald Driver to the Saints for Donte Stallworth.
