Kobe to switch to jersey number 24

Kobe Bryant plans to ditch No. 8 and switch his jersey number to 24 beginning next season, ESPN reports.
I wonder if the real reason is to be one up on Lebron's 23?

He's already one up on LeBron in terms of being a better player, why not in jersey as well?

Kobe is a far far better defender right now and a better scorer; does 2 rebounds per game and 2 assists per game really make up for that? I would say most definitely not, as LeBron is pretty much a liability defensively right now whereas Kobe is servicable at the absolute minimum.

Kobe ran off the best player in the game because he was too selfish to share the spotlight. He gave up multiple more championships because of his selfish attitude. You can have that player because he plays more defense. I'll take LeBron.

And I'll enjoy having the better player (for like 2 more seasons, anyway, LeBron'll pass him shortly and then I'll be pissed that I took Kobe).

Kobe's a better defender, but only when he actually he tries, which is like 30% to 40% of the opponent's possessions.

He's a better scorer supposedly, but shoots 45% to Lebron's 48%. Not to mention Kobe forces up so many ridiculously bad shots just from ballhogging (as does Lebron, but not nearly as often).

    Lebron's better all-around, but it's close.

I stopped reading here, because that is ridiculously wrong.

And at the point James is at, Kobe would be a better defender even without trying.

No, it's not. Watch him, he's lazy on a lot of defensive possessions. But when he decides to shut someone down though, he shuts them down as good as anyone.

Shaq is as big of an asshole as Kobe is. I loved the Lakers since I was a kid until Shaq said what he said about the Kings after an exttremely tough series where they should have lost. He is classless and shows no repsect for the game. They had to split up. Even Phil had enough of that shit.

LeBron is and will continue to be a better all around player than Kobe for this reason... LeBron passes the ball. The only reason Kobe scored 81 this season was the fact he jacked the ball up 150 times that game. LeBron knows how to get his teammates involved. The defense argument holds no water because no one really plays good defense in the NBA unless they are specifically a defensive specialist.

I'll take LeBron any day of the week and twice on Sundays. He knows how to make his teammates better.

    Plus, I don't think he's one-upping LeBron, I think he's one-upping MJ.
