Thread: The NFL Draft

  1. #31
Just got wind that SF traded their 2nd rder and 3rd rder for Broncos 22nd pick. Not a bad move up at all. Any 49er fans know what the niners might be going after with these two picks in the first round.

Vernon Davis and Bobby Carpenter are my guesses.

I really don't like Carpenter in the first round. Seems like a reach. He's probably more of a 2nd round spect, IMO.

I think he's really underrated by a lot of people, and many scouts have him as first round talent. Plus, a lot of people think he'll fit a 3-4 really well, and since the 49ers run a 3-4, it seems like a good fit.

True. True. I'm just thinking he may fall to the 2nd round. I don't see the 49ers going with him with the 22nd pick. Especially when they could go with a pick to help their secondary. Possibly WR or DL.

I just think they could help out their LBs later in the draft.

I think most scouts have Carpenter as a 2nd or 3rd.

Most scouts have Carpenter as a late first/early second pick. He's athletic, has good speed and size, can blitz very well, covers very well. Carpenter is very Mike Vrabel. He'll be taken in the late first by a 3-4 team in need of a nice all around or blitzing linebacker.

The 49ers will be going either Vernon Davis or Michael Huff with their first pick, and then when they get to 22, they'll be looking at Bobby Carpenter or a Manny Lawson or maybe a Jonathan Joseph or Demeco Ryans. There's so many paths they could go at 22, really, because there's a ton of guys who'll be there that all fill holes. They made out nicely on that deal.

Not sure what they want from #22, i could say they are drafting more weapons on offense, probably a WR or RB.

Porter, is that what they really need though? Offense? I would think they would need some defense to help replace Peterson and Carter.

Well the niners just don't need help at the LB spot. There are a lot of defensive specs that could help out the Niners.

Am I the only one who isn't going to watch the NFL draft?

Yes. All of the other 7+ billion people in the world will be watching and/or participating in it.

^ LOL. Billion people? We talking NFL draft, not World Cup.

90 million people watched the last Super Bowl.
6 million people watched the last NFL Draft.

That's quite a lot of people to watch such a boring program (the draft).

It was a joke. I was insinuating that everyone in the world but you would be watching and/or participating. I know that that won't actually happen. I wouldn't call the draft a "boring program" though. The draft is where every franchise in the NFL builds its team for the present and the future. It's also where every franchise gets its best players. That's why people watch. They want to see who and what the future of their team will be. If you're not interested in that, then I guess it might be a "boring program" for you. Then again, I can't see why any NFL fan wouldn't be interested in that.
