Happy Birthday! What were your fave movies from 2017?

So by now, you know that the Shape of Water, aka the fish seckz movie, won the Oscar for best picture. And Get Out probably had some of the greatest hype ever. But the ratings were also probably the lowest ever for the Oscars. Black Panther probably made more money in its first weekend than all of the best film nominees combined, just to serve as an example as to the idea that most of the nominated films- not a ton of people have actually seen outside of Get Out and Dunkirk. The general move go'er probably has no cares for Phantom Thread or The Post or perhaps has never even heard of those films.

I'm not saying these movies suck, I too have not seen most of them. But I also have like no interest in 3 Billboards, The Post, etc.

So what were your favorites from this past year? Got a top 5 maybe?

Every year like clockwork I haven’t even heard of at least 90 percent of the movies nominated for Oscars, to include whatever wins Best Picture that suddenly everyone loves and is raving about.

I think another issue is that most of them come out late in the year, thus are still technically in the theatres but are either not wide releases or frankly, I have no interest in spending 8 dollars for a 2 hour drama (I prefer actual popcorn flicks on the big screen). Now, Get Out is different, it came out last February I think and Dunkirk and the Shape of Water have popcorn film aspects plus are directed by Christopher Nolan and Guillermo Del Toro respectively.

But beyond that, I have like no idea what Phantom Thread is. 3 Billboards is comprised of a bunch of miserable characters, I have BS for that , and Armie Hammer in a track suit isn't calling my name.

I hadn't even heard of that one until it won the Oscar and was suddenly everybody's favorite movie.
