I'm sure some of you Midwesterners are bigger world travelers than I ever will be, but I can't imagine living in a landlocked state. I rarely ever go to the beach, but I like that I can go if I want to. I would just feel so deprived in Oklahoma, Kansas, or Nebraska.

The beach is nice but having gone back there on a few occasions I think my memory of great times there was fueled more by nostalgia than the experience itself.

At the end of the day I can get the same experience at the YMCA without coming home with sand in everything or having to rely on the generosity of strangers not stealing my wallet out of my shoe.

And if sand and water is the experience I'm looking for the local lakes have shorelines as well, so I'm not really missing out on that either.

The thing that sucks most about being in Arkansas when it comes to travel, though, is trying to find reasonably priced airline tickets out of Little Rock, which has led to multiple Greyhound experiences on my part (even if only to Dallas for a cheaper plane ticket)

All of that being said, I'd still move back to San Diego in a heartbeat if finances weren't a factor. But that has to do with more than just the beach.

But since our eventual lots in life are not predetermined before high school and algebra is vital to literally each and every technological advancement known to man it is still crucial to teach the fundamentals to everyone because you don't want to wait until someone decides they want to advance society before teaching them the basics.

You know what happens when you insult the importance of Math in every day life... Do you? Do you know what happens?



Seriously though, we use to be the edge of societial and technological advancement. This just reinforces to me that we aren't the pioneers we use to be. We honor societial garbage like Honey Boo Boo, Cash me out round back, and even our current President while mocking much of science... its no surprise that we've ended up where we are.

A ton of people I knew in high school knew they weren't going to be going into something with a science background and would have been better off with a math for living type of class that focused on personal finances or math for liberal arts
