    Pay Attention.
Write notes on the material being taught. (Not to your friends!)
    Do the homework.
    Study.
    Read.

If you have one of those graphing calculators, playing the games on those things passes time admirably.

He's 13... meaning he would be very lucky to have a graphing calculator .

Pay attention, take notes, and read.

You'll be thankful for it 9 years from now when you're struggling to not fail all your classes in the second semester of your first year of college.

LOL.... you're going to have to pick things up if you're going to be a Journalist with good credentials.

    True, I'm lucky and I didn't get one until I was 17.

I had mine a couple of years or so before that.

Yeah, maybe I am not going to win a Journalist of the year award. But this summer I'll be working for the Braves as an intern, which is involved in sports and will help me build a resume so it's all good

    Good call.

You still have to have the profile though.

I'm just trying to help you, because I know you want to be a sportswriter as much as I do. (:

I got mine at 14 lol. I'm 2 years ahead though in math. Also I didn't have to get one but we decided to anyway. I know some kids who still don't have them. I couldn't go without mine trying to do the HW at home.

Yeah, I know. Us Journalists are going to have to stick together. However, when you say profile that is generally meant as examples of your work and stuff you've written. Not stupid Math courses.

Back on topic, if you are really not interested in making your time in school a productive time, I would always ask a ton of questions and make a ton of comments during the teachers. That always annoys them, lol.

Since UD requires everyone to buy a laptop from them we are obviously allowed to use them within all classrooms.... which basically means in a blowoff general course there is just one big AIM chat session going on.

As for other things I did more in high school:
Graphing calculators... I logged 20 hours easily on Pacman and Tetris in my senior year study hall.
Text messaging... if you sit in the back, you can usually get away with it if you are discrete.
And the greatest... hall roaming. In fact I won the award for the biggest hall roamer. Last year my physics class was first in the morning and with a McDonalds across the street I usually left in the morning about 15 minutes before class ended to get a nice hot cup of coffee.

Surprisingly I had a 3.5 GPA in high school. Weird.

It sounds like your HS was pretty lax, mission. No one could just wander off to McDonald's with 15 minutes left in class.

Also, Purdue doesn't require laptops for classes... neither does UK. (Although I'm going to have one anyway, considering I will be doing a bunch of writing, including for the school newspaper). (:

Oh, Falcon (ATL... here are some of the Journalism courses I'm going to be taking at UK next semester. Have you had any of these/will you have any of these?
