I was intending on going to bed, but flipped around the channels and caught this on HBO the other night. So, I ended up watching it. I'm not a big fan of war movies, but this wasn't really about war but the psychology of young soldiers preparing for a war that they never really got to engage themselves in. It's not Saving Private Ryan or The Patriot in terms of great battle sequences, blood, and gore but rather the slow deteriotation of the mind and the struggles the soldiers go through.
Foxx was his typical loud-mouthed self. Gyllenhaal gave an unexpected raunchy but effective performance as Swofford. Sarsgaard did prolly the best acting in the movie. There's also unforgettable scenes involving Chris Cooper and Dennis "President Allstate Insurance Pedro Cerrano" Haysbert.
Worth watching unless you are looking for tons of action and fighting.
