I started with the 1992 Padres, didn't do anything other than a few minor league deals, and they went 100-62 and beat the Mariners in the World Series.

Why couldn't this really happen in 1992?

I tried out the '93 Rockies and in the first week the Yankees offered me Derek Jeter for a backup catcher...

Needless to say, I was happy.

I started over as the 1969 Padres, though.

I started in 2006, traded every one of my 1 mil+ contracts for prospects, including Jake Peavy and Trevor Hoffman, and my $15 mil payroll team won the World Series, go figure.

(Granted Jake Peavy was traded for Felix Hernandez)

I then went crazy in the free agent market as my payroll budget rose to 85 mil and I had 70 to play with, then my team won the WS again with a Yankees-style roster.
