I can't speak for other Padres fans, no matter how much you try to pretend I do, but I'd almost rather see the Dodgers succeed with their big spending FAs over retreads.

It's infuriating to see a team with their spending power find some bullshit retread like Max Muncy in the garbage bin and see him suddenly turn into a super star.

I don't know what's grinding my gears more on social media right now: Everyone rushing to take very politically slanted, predictable sides on this whole thing with Nathan Phillips and the kid in the MAGA hat distorting the truth to some perverted narrative that fits their overall views or all of the Saints fans whining about the end of the game and the bad call.

And before Mofo chimes in, I blamed the Chargers for not stopping the 2 pt conversion, not Hochuli. I was mad about Hochuli but I didn't say he was why they lost.

    But do they?

It was a bad call, but a bad call earlier in the game cost the Rams 4 points.

There's more to the outcome of a sporting event than one play.

Well, save if the outcome would directly lead to the end of the game.

But that basically argues that any bad call that happened prior to that which helped lead to the game even being at that point to begin with does not matter.

You need that blown call that most likely cost the Rams 4 points to still happen for the call in question to decide the game.

Not all bad calls are equal. I agree that you can't say stuff early on has an impact because there's so much game left to play, but I guess it's fair to say the Saints botch a handoff, or the kick gets blocked, or some missed, or a bobbled ball ala Romo. So you can't say for sure that it'd have been the end, but 99% sure it would have been.

Yes, they did have their chance to stop, to score, but no chance would have been good as that one, and the role of the people to keep things fair was botched and that hurts.

My argument has nothing to do with any sort of miracle that could have conceivably happened after the call.

It has everything to do with the fact that if the Rams score a TD after gaining a 1st down on a missed face mask instead of settling for a field goal that changes the entire complexion of what follows leading up to the point where in reality there was a bad call at the end.

And even if the Rams get that 1st down and then go 4 and out that's that much more time on the clock.

It's asinine to pretend that one play decided the entire game just because it happened at the end.

Except it's not. If it's at the end of the game (which it wouldn't be the exact end of the game in this case to be fair), that is the last anything can happen. How would that not basically determine the outcome of the game at that point in time?

Yes, things may have altered the potential for that moment earlier, but the point is there was still potential for alteration. If it's at the end, there is no more potential for alteration. It becomes in essence an almost binary event.

Worse was the fucking Patriots... Edelmann call could not be reversed (beyond a doubt that he didn't touch it?). The call on the field was a fumble and a Chief's TD. And hitting Brady's shoulder pad is not a penalty for goodness sake. Refs suck from little league all the way to the pros... I just don't understand it.
One time coaching girl's 16yr old fast-pitch softball the ump call a foul ball down the left field line a fair ball and was likely going to cost us the game. I protested and argued it was foul, he said he saw chalk fly up... I said that is funny because the lines are painted (loudly). His face turned red as a beet... I continued to fuss and he said one more word and I was gone. I didn't have any help so I just let it be... the fans sure were tickled tho.

Don't get me wrong... reffing and umping is hard to do right. But the Saints call and the Patriots calls were just basic and simple calls. Two rets were within 10 feet of the Saints play... everybody on earth but the replay officials knew you just could not reverse the fumble on the punt. But they did.

Re: The grinds my gears thread

So, I don't typically go for the "women in the kitchen" type jokes. But I do like to be a contrarian and find loopholes which led to this latest rant.

This isn't so much a grind my gears thing as much as I just find it funny, but I couldn't think of where else to post it.

So I'm in this facebook group that thus far has given me the impression that it's an anything goes/they don't care about "offensive" humor type page. And many of the memes shared in it reflects that.

So, this guy (who's an admin I might add) posts a thread about how women aren't allowed to post unless they first get permission from a guy. He's basically joking and while the women are giving him all kinds of hell nobody's getting banned or yelled at or anything.

Within the thread some woman posts a twitter screen shot basically saying that it doesn't make sense to tell a woman on twitter to "get back in the kitchen" because she can access twitter from the kitchen via her phone or tablet.

I simply respond (because it's way too easy) "but shouldn't you be making my sandwich and not playing on twitter?"

Two seconds later I'm banned from the group.

Because if something different happens earlier in the game that last play may not even happen. That's the entire point.

Yes, but what happened did happen. There was still plenty of time to course correct after that. There was very little after the non-call. Earlier in the game there are still a ton of possible outcomes and scenarios. That late, there are far fewer.

The fact that there is more time after one egregious error than the other doesn’t make the latter more egregious. That’s the entirety of my argument.
