Re: The grinds my gears thread
I'm sure I've posted about this in here before but it drives me nuts that more than half of the time real estate listings (rent and for sale alike) don't list the address, or at least a semi-specific location like a street or something. Typically the best you'll get is a school district, which covers a lot of area.
Location is a very fundemental factor of deciding where to live....I mean, it's right there in the question. Why people feel this isn't important enough information to provide boggles my mind to no end.
Re: The grinds my gears thread
I always inwardly laugh anytime I overhear coworkers bitching about other coworkers behind their back and they pull out the "how old are we again?" or "are we still in high school?" line while bitching about them behind their back.

I say this realizing most of my rants in here kinda fall under a similar umbrella, but at least mine are vague complaints about general habits and activities that a lot of people do. The type I'm ranting about here are the ones you see that are painfully obviously about a specific circumstance involving a specific individual (or individuals) addressed to the general public for some odd reason.

Here's a prime example of what I was talking about there. I just saw this on my wall by a friend who's notorious for that kind of stuff. (The one nice thing about it being purposely vague is that I don't have to censor it here)
"I GOT NEWS FOR YA MISS THING DONT OPEN YOUR MOUTH AND MOUTH ME UNLESS YOU CAN BACK IT UP SWEETHEART, AND THEN TAKE OFF TO BACK AND GET WORKED UP TOWARD WHAT I SAID!!!! JUST SAYING!!!! "
My question is, why is this being virtually screamed at me? Why isn't this posted on "Miss Thing"'s wall? Or better yet, in "Miss Thing"'s PM box since it's obviously a direct statement to her?
Those questions are all rhetorical because I know the answer is she wants to vent all of that without the confrontation that'd ensue if she actually said it to "miss thing", and to this particular friends' credit at least she most likely doesn't have this person on her friends list to see that like many others who post that kind of stuff do.
And in any rate, while I comprehend the why it still irritates me because it serves no purpose other than to make those who do see it a little uncomfortable.
Your wall on facebook is akin to a public setting with those you choose to have around you. Would anyone walk into a crowded room of friends, family, coworkers, and acquaintances and just yell something like that randomly? Then why do you yell it in front of them virtually?
Anyway, rant over.
Re: The grinds my gears thread
I don't see a wall setting similar to a room full of family and friends, solely because the internet is different from being in person.
Why is it on your wall if it has nothing to do with you at all?
In any case, people who often do that need to vent, but don't want the confrontation as you said, but also have no confidant person to vent to.

These two questions/statements lead me to believe you're not grasping the concept of what I'm talking about (which is probably related to the fact that you don't use facebook much at all)
It's not posted directly on my wall, it's posted on her wall. But Facebook being what it is, it's on the general feed wall that I view for everyone to see....which is why I equate it to being in a room full of your friends (and whoever else you choose to have on your facebook friends list)
Anything you post on your facebook wall is seen by anybody on your friends list unless you go out of your way to exclude them in the settings.....much like anything I say out loud in a crowded room of people is heard by those people. Maybe not all of them....but if I post something on my wall it may not be seen by all my friends either. It's practically the internet equivalent of a mirror image.
Re: The grinds my gears thread
so it's your news feed then?

Yes.
If I go to facebook and post something that's not directed at anyone in particular everyone sees it (barring me changing the settings on my facebook)
At least if she posted it on "miss thing"s wall where I'd still see it (depending on "Miss Thing's" settings and whether or not I'm on "Miss Thing"s friends list...) it'd still be properly directed at her. Instead it's just said to nobody in particular but in the setting where everyone on her friends list sees it.

Re: The grinds my gears thread
Of all the lame facebook weekly trends (like "throwback Thursday") "Mancrush Monday (MCM)" and "Woman Crush Wednesday (WCW)" have to be the lamest by far.
Gee, I wonder who this person is going to pick this week as their MCM or WCW. Oh, surprise! It's the same person because they're not running around with a different person than the current one they're in love with (or they're not going to advertise it to the world at least).
At least with stuff like "throwback Thursday" it can be a variety of different pictures one might choose from their childhood. This is just a random theme to pick the same person on a weekly basis.
Re: The grinds my gears thread
those people are missing the point of those silly things on top of it. It's supposed to be a people you think are awesome type thing. Somehow a stupid thing wound up getting compounded with more stupidity to create uber stupidity. It's like the Cleveland Browns of social media.
Re: The grinds my gears thread
As an aside, every time someone posts about their "WCW" I keep expecting them to pick Ric Flair or Sting, or maybe Hollywood Hulk Hogan.
Re: The grinds my gears thread
when I first saw WCW I thought it was going to be about that, but I guess that's not terribly surprising.
