There's not wanting to be attached to the stigma, then there's taking a bunch of precautions.

The only good thing making a story like this go viral may accomplish is perhaps a stricter punishment for the cop, which I won't hate, but it also comes with the added cop hating that I'm really complaining about.
For me, that's acceptable.

Even if something good did come of the story going viral that still doesn't eliminate the sentiment that I'm griping about in here, it'd just be a good side effect.
I'm not required to only reply to your sentiment though.

They'll do that over any negative cop story though? And yes, I know that's your point, but it's not mine. This one just has something that it could produce something useful at least as opposed to the standard fare.

But taking too many precautions for a specific possibility can be damaging to an organization's operations.
The only thing you can really do is tell them not to shoot dogs.

And thus, a positive development.

What positive development?
That they tell them not to shoot dogs?
I go back to my point that this is already common knowledge.
Some assholes just don't care.

Then why are we arguing?

Some are more apt to care if there's increased scrutiny. I'm less likely to surf the net at work on a day when things are tense than not for example.

Surfing the net during company hours hardly compares to shooting dogs with your government issued weapon.
I don't think you'd need things to be tense to not walk into your boss's office and punch him/her in the face and then take a piss on his/her desk.

Are we arguing? You made a point, I made a point, I'm not sure there was a disagreement. Well, I guess there was. You see these as having no porpoise aside from cop bashing. I see a potential very useful development from the attention drawn to it. After that, I'm not sure where things stand.
I guess, you point was that these stories have no porpoise but to cop bash. My point was this could have a benefit and a porpoise, even if unintended, so I guess that's the argument?

No, but it's a perfectly cromulent example as to people modifying behaviour when there's more scrutiny and attention on them.
Punching your boss in the face hardly compares to the shooting either.

That's not the purpose of people making it go viral, though. Their purpose is to spread cop hating and display another example of why all cops are disgraceful pigs (because this story obviously proves they like killing dogs)
The good that you're arguing could come of it is a side-effect to their vitriol. So, yeah, it may or may not have a good benefit but it's the intent and purpose of posting it that I'm bitching about.

Punching your boss in the face is a much closer comparison because, like killing a dog while on duty as a cop, it's an action that you don't need added scrutiny to know not to do and an action that if somebody is going to take it no amount of company-time-wasting-meeting telling people not to do it is going to prevent them from doing so.
It's also much closer in terms of morals and consequences of the actions. (Dog killing is obviously worse, but the comparison is which is closer between that and the net surfing)

That's why I called it an unintended porpoise. I know what you're bitching about, and I'm taking it a step further than that, but I've covered that. Call it going off topic, or evolving the topic or whatever.
The dog didn't die, fwiw.
