Greyhound probably has the worst rewards program ever. Thank you for discounting the "standard" and "refundable" fares that are still twice the price I can get for an advanced purchase without being registered.

It's also funny that often times (but not always) a greyhound ticket costs more than an airplane ticket. You'd think they'd be doing everything in their power to make it more affordable when it's not exactly the most convenient or comfortable form of travel.

    Dear Hotels.com

I don't give a shit who booked what recently. You're not going to affect my decision what I want to book and when by giving me a pop up every two seconds about how some random person I don't know just booked a hotel.

Kinda along similar lines, I hate it when recipes that call for milk specify 2% or non fat milk.

Fuck you Kraft, let me decide what kind of milk I want in my Mac and Cheese.

When somebody makes a joke on the internet and accuses anyone who doesn't catch it of having no sense of humor because they didn't immediately catch their joke.

Typically it involves some kind of irony where you have to understand the context of what they're making fun of to realize they're not being serious, but what they're making fun of isn't always as obvious to the reader of their attempted humor as they think it should be.

Re: The grinds my gears thread

What really grinds my gears is “business speak”. All of these terms that I hear used in the workplace already have perfectly good words as descriptors. Who comes up with this trendy shit and most importantly, why!!??

    Granularity: detail

    Increased Granularity: more detail

    Granularity deficit: not enough detail

    Circle up: to meet

Circle back: meet again (also: discuss again later)

Reach out to: contact (also: talk to)

    Data Mining: Finding information

Take it offline: Discuss outside of the meeting (also: "shut up!" or "stick to the point!")

    Visibility: To know about something

No visibility: To not know about something

Drill down: get more detailed information

Shoot the puppy: take drastic action

Escalate: "I'm telling my boss about this."

Obsolete (used as a verb): delete or inactivate “We need to obsolete that policy.” Can’t you just say “We need to delete or revise that policy”!!?? “Obsolete” is NOT a verb.

Taxonomy: Category (What the fuck is wrong with saying “category”?)

Ping: to contact (usually via instant messaging or email)

“We need more visibility on our Total Spend taxonomy. Reach out to Accounting and ask them to drill down to get some increased granularity on these figures. Ping me when you’re ready to circle up so we can obsolete the old data.”

    AAAUUUUGHGHGHHHHHHH!!!!

But one that that really irks me more than most of the other shit in here is irrational cop hating.

    - I had a few bad experiences with cops, therefore they're all assholes

    - I read a story on the internet about some cop on the other side of the country who shot a dog, therefore they're all assholes!

    - Everyone must know about this dog shooting cop to be aware that they're all assholes! Let's make this awarness campaign go viral!

    - There wasn't sufficient evidence to prove my complaint against my experience with a legitimately bad cop and the rest of them didn't just blindly take my word for it and fire him after I told them, therefore they're all assholes covering for each other!

Everyone hates cops until they need them.

And it must really suck being one of the many underapreciated good cops. You get all the stigma of being part of the "1 percent" while enjoying all the pay and benefits of the "99 percent".
Apparently some cop in Indiana shot a dog and now a lot of my friends on facebook (none of which live in Indiana) are rushing to their computers to make the story go viral and it's all over my wall.

And, of course, since this isn't the first time a cop somewhere in the country shot a dog this is now being portrayed as a trend that all cops love doing.

if the story going viral helps prevent future pet shootings, then it's well worth it. None of the news stories seem to indicate clearly who is in the right or wrong, but it really seems like shooting the dog was unnecessary. Fortunately the dog lived.

Everyone in this country knows how the general populace feels about the uneccesary death of a pet...especially dogs. People still villify Mike Vick to this day because of that sentiment. Somehow I doubt it takes a story of a cop shooting a dog going viral to make police departments want to prevent it from happening.

No amount of viral news story is going to stop an asshole cop who would shoot a dog in persuit of a culprit from doing so. The only thing this accomplishes is giving the 99% of cops who wouldn't shoot a dog and the worst thing they may do is maybe write an uneccesary ticket a bad name as people across facebook share the story then swap stories about how all cops are pigs and assholes.

I disagree. Perhaps it's naive, but I think it could lead to potential changes both with this precinct and others ones if there's enough negative publicity.

conversely, I also don't think the story would sway anyone to the cops are assholes side. It just serves to whip them all into a froth and a frenzy.

Name me one person operating a legit/legal operation who doesn't already want his organization to not be attached to the stigma of being dog killers and I'll name you a bridge in China for sale.

The only good thing making a story like this go viral may accomplish is perhaps a stricter punishment for the cop, which I won't hate, but it also comes with the added cop hating that I'm really complaining about.

Even if something good did come of the story going viral that still doesn't eliminate the sentiment that I'm griping about in here, it'd just be a good side effect.

Right. But I'm not complaining about the possibility of anybody being swayed. I'm complaining about the glad-handing those that already irrationally hate cops are doing by beating this dead horse every time they dig up some story like this in a part of the country they've never been to.
