Sports sites attaching auto-starting videos to every article.

If you want to attach some video to every article that's fine, but let me choose if/when to play it. Most of the time I just want to read the article.

Of course that's why they make it auto play. I'm saying that grinds my proverbial gears.

A lot of the times it's the same video over and over again (some recap of the draft in multiple different articles about the draft in this case)

Often times when I go to a sports site I find multiple headlines that interest me and open every one of them up in separate tabs so I can read each one when I get to them.

A few years ago before some marketing asshole decided it was a great idea to attach some loosely related auto starting video to every article this worked great because I can get to each article after I'm done with the one I'm currently on.

Now I have to hear a bunch of different videos (often times the same one) all running at the same time until I go to each tab and pause them.

Stupid ads on smart phones that cover the entire screen except for that one tiny "x" pixel that you have to hit if you don't want to be redirected to what it's advertising.

Most of the shit I post in here is really just minor crap that barely tips the scale enough for me to make a post about it. I'm just coming in there for the sake of bumping the thread half of the time.

But one that that really irks me more than most of the other shit in here is irrational cop hating.

- I had a few bad experiences with cops, therefore they're all assholes

- I read a story on the internet about some cop on the other side of the country who shot a dog, therefore they're all assholes!

- Everyone must know about this dog shooting cop to be aware that they're all assholes! Let's make this awarness campaign go viral!

- There wasn't sufficient evidence to prove my complaint against my experience with a legitimately bad cop and the rest of them didn't just blindly take my word for it and fire him after I told them, therefore they're all assholes covering for each other!

Everyone hates cops until they need them.

And it must really suck being one of the many underapreciated good cops. You get all the stigma of being part of the "1 percent" while enjoying all the pay and benefits of the "99 percent".

It irks me that there seems to be that irrational "hating" in general, all groups get tarnished due to a handful of bozos. Not ALL cops get their jollies by finding a reason to get into someone's face, not all vets have PTSD, not all religious people ram their beliefs down your throat, not all women bleed men dry in a divorce and not all men would hit a woman for burning dinner.

Services that don't tell you how much their services cost unless you request a quote for a specific circumstance.

I understand every situation is different in many types of services, but can't you at least give me a rough guesstimate based on generic factors I can input while attaching a disclaimer that the actual cost may vary?

It makes it tough to plan long-term if you've never used that type of service and don't really know if you'll need it in the future, but are looking to see if it can be an option.

(Moving services prompted this rant, but I've encountered it when looking for places to rent and various other types before as well)

If you're violating traffic laws specifically designed to minimize automobile-enduced conflict then they're stopping you primarily to prevent said would-be conflict

"...against people who committed no crime..."

Last I checked violating traffic laws is committing a crime. Sure, you're not committing a class A felony but it is still a crime.

I won't be naive and pretend the police department doesn't care about the revenue, but let's also not be naive and pretend that the police department exists purely to turn a profit like they're just some corner store trying to force sell you their services.
