I'm going to dinner with my family tonight. I don't usually like to, and I can usually get out of it, but my aunt told me she had a gift for me. The gift, if I'm able to guess correctly, is a Johan Santana Autographed Baseball. That would be awesome. Here's to hoping I'm right!

and here's to hoping it's a sweater that's 4 sizes too small, itchy as all hell, and your parents make you wear it for the rest of the night.

Haha, well, due to my connections, I could have set you up(my family friend is Johan's agent). But thanks for the negativity. I'll send you the sweater.

No problem. Just got home, and it was the Santana autograph. It also turns out that my aunt asked Johan's agent about a possible dinner over my winter break. It's by no means a done deal, but there's a chance that I could eat dinner and talk baseball with Mr. Santana.

Going through the usual class roster stuff of the first day of class again got me thinking. You know how teachers will ask a William or a Robert if they have a nickname they would rather go by? I think if I taught a class, god help us all, I'd give each student their own nickname to go by and other students would need to learn it and address them accordingly.

"Slim" "The Chief" "Hot Rod" "Slick" "Brooklyn" etc.

They would hate me. I'd eventually give someone an insulting nickname for which I and/or the university would be sued for.

Where's the classics like Booger, Poindexter, Flounder and Pinto? A complete mixture of Animal House and Revenge of the Nerds.

I didn't really want to go with specific references, but that would be fun. Like I would take roll, get whatever everyone wants to be called (Bob, Jim, Cass, etc) and then walk back through and assign names on looks, interests and so on.

But Flounder and Pinto would rock.

Can someone explain to me why people don't carry their IDs into stores/rental places that ask for ID? You have to have them on you at bars.
