Tommy Hunter could be sidelined six weeks with a strained right groin.
As groin strains go, it appears to be on the more serious side. He'll return to Texas to receive a blood-platelet injection before beginning his rehab. Though Hunter's 13-4 record and 3.73 ERA last season were pretty fluky, it's still a blow to the Rangers. Dave Bush and Michael Kirkman are the candidates to replace him in the rotation. Kirkman definitely has more upside of the two, but the Rangers would probably prefer giving him some more Triple-A seasoning.
Big blow to the Rangers so close to Opening Day. The Rangers are already thin in the rotation and this makes things worse. The Rangers were one of the teams scouting Doug Davis the other day so he could be an option. This being so late in ST, they should find other options that couldn't crack other team's rotations.
