    Rangers Hamilton Out 4-6 Weeks

Josh Hamilton will have surgery on Tuesday to repair a partial tear in his abdominal muscle. He is expected to be out 4-6 weeks. The injury is considered not as severe as the sports hernia injury that Ian Kinsler was dealing with at the end of last season. The Rangers expect Hamilton back shortly after the All-Star break.

The Rangers are also unsure if Frank Francisco will be available on Monday. He is still dealing with a sore right shoulder but has shown some improvement and the Rangers are not putting him on the disabled list as of now.

At least its not a season ending injury or something like that but it still sucks. Hamilton is a fun player to watch and his comeback story is amazing. Hopefully all goes well with his surgery.

This has to be the biggest person that the rangers could have lost for an extended period of time. The Angels will overtake them now.

But the Rangers also wonder about the recovery process. Last season, Hamilton had a stomach ailment that sent him to the hospital; he wound up on the disabled list. “The years of drug abuse tore up my immune system pretty good,” he said at the time.

Hamilton hit 21 home runs and drove in a major league leading 95 runs in the season’s first half; those numbers dropped to 11 and 35 in the second half. The most commonly offered explanation was that Hamilton had never played a full major league season, but maybe there is more involved.

“It’s just so hard to tell with him,” Vazquez said. “His body is not as resilient as a normal person’s. He has brute strength and serious talent, but his ability to heal and his immune system is not there, like it is for a lot of people.

Damn, that would suck if the fallout from his crack cocaine abuse eventually robs him of his talent.
