Player Rangers not likely to keep Andruw Jones

    Per Rotoworld:
The Dallas Morning News reports that "it looks more and more likely that the Rangers won't" keep Andruw Jones.
Jones can opt out of his minor league contract Friday if he's not on the 40-man roster. "We'll see what happens Friday," Jones said. "We'll probably make our decision. They probably will make their decision soon. The main thing is to go out there and get at-bats and get the work in that you need."
In 31 AB's, Jones has hit .258 with one homer, two doubles and two RBI's. But he has also stuck out fourteen times while drawing only three walks.

Will another MLB club give him a spot on a 25 man roster or will he be forced to accept a AAA assignment to prove he can perform still?

Andruw will have to play his way onto a major-league roster. I'm not sure he's willing to accept this fact at this time.

If he ever wants to get in shape again. It's a thought.

I mean the ballpark made sense for him but I don't get why him and Boras thought this was a good idea. The Rangers have depth and for a guy whose talent has without question diminished... it wasn't exactly a great idea, in shape or not.

Re: Rangers not likely to keep Andruw Jones

SI.com reports that the Rangers asked Andruw Jones to delay the decision about opting out of his minor league contract and he's agreed to do so until Monday.
Jones is able to opt out of the deal today if he's not placed on the 40-man roster and indications were that the Rangers weren't planning to add him. Jones is 8-for-31 with 14 strikeouts this spring and has recently been playing primarily in minor league games.
Nolan Ryan must be a cold hearted bastard to mess with Andruw's feelings like this.

    Per Rotoworld:
The Dallas Morning News reports that Andruw Jones "is going to stick around with the Rangers, possibly until spring training ends."
Jones could have opted out of his minor league contract last week, but is still hoping to win a spot on Texas' bench. Even that minor role is far from guaranteed, as he'll likely have to beat out Frank Catalanotto and perhaps Brandon Boggs as well.
Jones must have some kind of word that if he just turns it up a bit, he'll get that spot. That or he doesn't want to further embarrass himself and not be able to find a club to take him with a better situation for him.

I cannot see Jones beating out Catalanotto beacause of the money he's owed. Jones will have to do a lot more to make this team.

Re: Rangers not likely to keep Andruw Jones

Buster Olney reported that Jones has a 60/40 chance of actually making the team because he can hit lefties. I will be shocked if he makes this team.

And Olney isn't exactly the most reliable source. The only thing that might give this a bit more credibility is the fact that Andruw hasn't opted out...yet. Now that could be due to the obvious, which is his prospects elsewhere are not good, or the Rangers giving him hope of making the roster if he turns it up a bit more.

He can hit lefty's? Sure, if lefty's is the name of the local all-you-can-eat buffet.
