Player Eric Hurley to make major league debut

Rangers top prospects and former first round pick Eric Hurley will be making his major league debut tonight in Kansas City against Brian Bannister. A win tonight will ensure a Rangers sweep against the Royals and keep Texas from falling back down to .500. Hurley is taking the spot in the rotation left vacant by Sidney Ponson.

Is this guy any good? I'm looking at his minor-league numbers and they are hardly impressive. What is the report on him?

When you are a pitcher in the Rangers organization you don't need good numbers to get called up. I don't really know that much about him myself, just that he is a former #1 pick of the Rangers and I think is one of the Rangers top prospects. Although I couldn't find prospect rankings to confirm that.

Hurley pitched respectably for his major league debut. He went 6 innings giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and didn't walk a batter. He really only made two mistakes, and both of them ended up in the seats for 2-run homers. The Rangers put 4 runs across to bail him out of a loss so he ended up with a no decision.
