With the 11th overall pick in the draft, the Rangers selected firstbaseman Justin Smoak out of South Carolina. The 6'4" Smoak is a powerful switch hitting firstbaseman with possible gold glove potential. Remind anybody of a former Ranger firstbaseman who was a pretty good switch hitter and gold glove winner? He is already being compared to Mark Teixeira and Chipper Jones. I don't know what the Rangers are going to do with another firstbaseman, but in the words of Jon Daniels, "When you start drafting on need, that's when you get into trouble, you pass on the best player and you end up regretting it down the line."

If we can get another Teixeira, I am all for it.
