    Mr. Mench

Rangers signed outfielder Kevin Mench to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Mench had back-to-back 25-homer seasons for the Rangers in 2004 and 2005, but has hit just .268/.310/.428 since then and spent last year in Milwaukee. As part of the contract Mench has agreed to report to Triple-A if he doesn't earn a spot on the Opening Day roster, but he can become a free agent if he's not in the majors by June 1. He may be headed for Oklahoma to begin the season, because his competition to be the Rangers' fourth or fifth outfielder includes David Murphy, Nelson Cruz and Jason Botts.
Can't believe no one else picked him up where he might have a chance of contributing. No way do I put Mench ahead of Botts or Cruz.

Kevin Mench did a nice job for the Rangers before and could contribute again. We'll see if he's got anything left.
Isn't Botts in the running for 1B as well?

He'd be a good platoon partner to hit vs LHP
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Botts will compete along with Broussard and Salty.

    Re: Mr. Mench

Looking at some of Mench's season numbers as a whole, it looks like he was a pretty good contributor to the team. He was just far too streaky. He would be red hot for a week or two, and then cold as ice for a month. I still really liked the guy as a Ranger, in fact he was one of my favorite Rangers, but as good as Murphy did last year, and the potential of Botts and Cruz, I don't know that Mench has much of a place with the Rangers now.
