Can't believe no one else picked him up where he might have a chance of contributing. No way do I put Mench ahead of Botts or Cruz.Rangers signed outfielder Kevin Mench to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Mench had back-to-back 25-homer seasons for the Rangers in 2004 and 2005, but has hit just .268/.310/.428 since then and spent last year in Milwaukee. As part of the contract Mench has agreed to report to Triple-A if he doesn't earn a spot on the Opening Day roster, but he can become a free agent if he's not in the majors by June 1. He may be headed for Oklahoma to begin the season, because his competition to be the Rangers' fourth or fifth outfielder includes David Murphy, Nelson Cruz and Jason Botts.
