    Young Signs Extension

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2784537

Shortstop Michael Young has agreed to a contract extension worth about $80 million over five seasons with the Texas Rangers.
Young is a great SS but is he $16 mil good? I like Young and I think everyone would want this guy on their team but that price is a little too high for my taste. The Rangers do have Teixeira and Young for a while now so that's a good thing.

I agree with you, I love Young but I don't think he's worth $16 million. At least they've got him locked up for a long time now though.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Keeping the core of that team together is very smart. Now they need to shore up their pitching again, without going out to get Chan Ho Park.
Michael Young may be changing positions, yet again. The Rangers have a good, young SS prospect -- Joachim Arias -- that would fit right in with Kinsler. Blalock could DH and Young could play 3B.

I personally would not have cared how much the Rangers had to spend to keep Young, as long as they kept him. This is great news to me. I had heard he would be wanting something closer to free agent market value than the cheap contract he signed last time. I can understand that since by what seem to be the current salary standards, he was greatly underpayed considering his performance. Michael Young is very close to retiring as a Ranger now as his contract will run out when he is 37.
