Thread: Jonny Gomes and Doug Waechter

    Jonny Gomes and Doug Waechter

It's funny how being on the Devil Rays will get odd occurences and nice performances to be ignored. In the August 15 game, he hit a HR and had 2 SB. A nice game, but he also got hit be three pitches, which is pretty damn crazy. You know if Jeter or Ortiz were hit by three pitchers, some sort of brawl would ensue or the media would start making up theories about intentionally trying to hit a player, but it's Jonny Gomes.

And how often does a 9 IP/1 ER performance get less attention than a closer's blown save? Well, when the closer is Rivera and the SP is Waechter. He had a fantastic game, and without Eduardo Perez, no one would've noticed.

    Thanks for playing spoilers!

If they only had dealt Huff and Lugo for quality young arms..

I don't know if I understand not dealing at least one of them. Upton's essentially ready now (maybe not defensively), and although Lugo is a nice player, he isn't now what Upton will be. They have a handful of nice young OF too.

They nearly have a lineup of quality young guys that are either ready and playing now, or are almost there.

Baldelli, Gomes, Cantu, Upton, Bankston, Young, Crawford...

They just don't have much past Kazmir in the arm department.

I'm guessing that is why Lamar was so stingy in trading. He was looking for young pitching (in the likes of Anibal Sanchez (One of BOS three really good pitching prospects) or Brandon McCarthy (CHW's near MLB ready P prospect), I guess he just didn't want to pull the trigger. I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade pulled for Huff in the offseason on similar terms, the Sox have two corners in the IF to place him.

They would have really made out if that Big Three Way deal actually came to light, getting a quality group of prospects- including a couple of decent arms. Maybe he just wanted to hold out incase someone made a mistake like the mets and unloaded a big prospect for a chaotic player like Victor Zambrano.
