    TB Rays off season 2015-2016

Rays third base coach Charlie Montoyo had been interviewed for the Mariner's managerial position last week but Seattle went with Scott Servais who had been the Angels assistant general manager of scouting and player development.

Rumors are swirling that Montoyo may get a look from the Dodgers for the open manager position. Some reports have one time Ray Gabe Kapler as a viable candidate, he was hired last November to be LA's Director of Player Development.

    TB Rays off season 2015-2016-vice-president-baseball-operations-chaim-bloom-jpg

Last month the Rays gave permission for the Milwaukee Brewers to interview Vice President of Baseball Operations Chaim Bloom for their open General Manager position. They ended up naming David Sterns former assistant GM of the Astros to the position.

Last week he was one of three finalists for the Phillies open GM position along with Matt Klentak and Dan Kantrovitz. The Phils went with Klentak, at 35,
he becomes the youngest GM in team history. He had been the Angels assistant GM since November 2011.

So, after two rejections, it looks like Bloom will stay put, at least for now.

Nobody seems to know what he's going to do.........but....he'll be paid to do it by the Rays.

Predators’ CEO Jeff Cogen has been hired by the Tampa Bay Rays, will step down on Nov. 30th.

Soon, every candidate for baseball general manager is going to be a 30-something year old, analytical Ivy League graduate.

Probably right, I wonder if there are some numbers about the success rate of older managers working under younger GM's? Worked in TB for years and somewhat in LA as far as post season appearances.

Many locals are under the impression Jeff Cogen will mainly be given the task of trying to market the team to get more fans to Tropicana Field. I am thinking it maybe more and that one of his jobs will be to scope out the area to determine how best to position themselves and to go to bat for the team in the hopes of soon striking a deal with ST. Pete to begin looking for sites and even possibly to examine if leaving the region would be the best interest for the team in the long run.

I don't see a CEO stepping down just to try to sell tickets for the Rays.

Cal Ripken Jr. reportedly had expressed interest in getting back into baseball in a more hands on role, his name was linked to the Nationals when they had a job open, a position that was filled by Bud Black.

Now comes news that his company will be selling it's interest in the Charlotte Stones Crabs.

There are reports that former vice president, general manager and part owner of the Pawtucket Red Sox Lou Schwechheimer is at the top of the list to buy. The only team I can think of at the moment actively searching for a manager is the Dodgers, there are a few executive jobs that have recently opened.

Wonder if Cal got a call from someone.
