Re: 2015 Tampa Bay Rays season

Once again the Jays started the offense, in the first Travis doubled and Donaldson singled to bring him in to score. 1-0. The Rays came right back, Souza walked and Longoria doubled to make it 1-1.

From the second to the top of the 7th it was a pitching duel with Norris dominating. Martin homered to lead off the 7th, giving the Jays a 2-0 lead.

Norris was lifted for Osuna to start the 8th. Longo singled, then the Jays put Cecil in to replace Osuna. DeJesus singled, Longo to third. Cecil is lifted for Castro, Loney in to pinch hit for Forsythe. Loney doubles to score Longo, DeJesus to third. Beckham hit a long ball that is called a double, but challenged to see if it was actually a home run. Ruling on the field upheld. Double for Beckham brought in DeJesus and Loney.

Blue Jays challenged a call in the 9th that Encarnacion was safe at first, but call was upheld and was out. Jays went down in order, Rays take the game 4-2. Go for a sweep tomorrow.

Norris went 7 innings gave up one run on 5 hits, walked three and struck out seven. A really nice outing that went wasted, but Cecil took the loss.
Ramirez went 4 innings giving up one run on 4 hits, one walk and struck out two. He brought his ERA down to 13.94. WEE!!!
Travis extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double in the first inning off Ramirez.
Gomes is on a roll allowing no runs in four outings.
Longo had a four hit game for the fifth time in his career, the first time he has done it at Tropicana Field.
This was the first game in Major League history that the Toronto Blue Jays featured three Canadian position players in their starting lineup Michael Saunders (BC), Dalton Pompey (Ont.) and Russell Martin (Ont.).

Injury report Jennings was lifted in the 8th with left knee soreness he is day-to-day. DeJesus was his replacement and contributed to the 9th inning rally.

    Rays 0-10 in challenges.
Rays have a four game winning streak.

Took awhile for anyone to score, It was Karns who flinched first, walk to Drew, Gregorious singled then Ellsbury walked to load the bases, Brandon Gomes replaced Karns and walked to Gardner scored Drew to give the Yanks a 1-0 lead.

The Rays came right back in the 6th , DeJesus singled, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a fielder's choice on a ball in play by Cabrera. Justin Wilson relieved Warren to end the inning, 1-1.

McCann homered in the 6th to break the tie 2-1. Beltran doubled, reliever Gomes was lifted for Everett Teaford, Drew doubled home Beltran, 3-1.
McCann singled to start off the 8th, the bases were then loaded on a single off Drew and a walk by Gregorious, Ellsbury was hit by a pitch to score McCann making it 4-1 and that was the ball game.

Karns went 4.2 innings gave up one run on 3 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5.
Warren went 5 giving up 1 run on 5 hits , no walks wile striking out six.

Yankees took first game of the series, snapped the Rays 5 game winning streak. The Rays shut down Alex Rodriguez from his milestone, but that likely won' t last.

Longoria extended his hitting streak to six, but ended his career high streaks of seven consecutive hits and eight consecutive plate appearances reaching base.

NY has sole possession of first in the AL East 12-8.

Re: 2015 Tampa Bay Rays season

The first inning was the only one where the Rays didn't have chances to score and keep pace. Yankees made a good team effort keeping them at bay. Yankees drew first blood when Ellsbury singled, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error by Rivera and scored on a ground out by Gardner in the first. Then Teixeira doubled, McCann doubled him in to take a 2-0 lead.

In the third, Souza walked, Cabrera doubled to bring him to the plate, 2-1. In the fifth, Ellsbury singled, Gardner singled, Ellsbury went to third. Gardner stole second, McCann doubled them both home, 4-1.

In the 6th, Loney walked, Fosythe tripled sending him to the plate, 4-2. Both teams had more chances to score but 4-2 would stand.

Odorizzi went 6.1 innings, gave up 9 hits, 4 runs, no walks and struck out 4.
Whitley went 5, gave up one run on 6 hits, one walk and struck out 5.

Yanks manager Joe Girardi says Whitley may get in the rotation now that Masahiro Tanaka has been placed on the DL and likely will need season ending surgery.

Re: 2015 Tampa Bay Rays season

The final game was a 13 inning marathon battle of the bull pens and it was a good one. The Rays got the scoring started in the fourth Loney and Forsythe singled, then Kiermaier tripled to score them both to put the Ray sup 2-0.

Leading of the Yankee fifth, Headley homered to left to cut the lead in half 2-1. Then Young homered in the 6th for the 2-2 tie.

In the top of the ninth Yankee relief pitcher Andrew Miller somehow was able to haul in a bullet of a come-backer off the bat of Logan Forsythe that could have been nasty had it hit him. Both teams had plenty of chances to score, but in the 13th Yankee pitcher Chasen Shreve gave up a walk to Souza, then he went to second when Cabrera grounded out. They issued an intentional walk to Longoria to get to Loney, he singled to score Souza, giving the Rays a 3-2 lead.

Ernesto Frieri closed out the game giving up a single to Young but then ended the game on a double play. Rays salvage one game and end the Yanks win streak against them.

Ellsbury continues to be hot he went 3-for-6.
Smyly went 6 innings gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and one walk while striking out 10.
Pineda went 5.2 with 2 runs on 6 hits, no walks and 5 Ks.
Gomes was the WP, Shreve the LP.
Kevin Kiermaier's triple in the 4th snapped an 0-for-11 streak by the Rays with runners in scoring position.

Alex Rodriguez had the first 0-for-6 game of his career, with four strikeouts. He had a chance to get the tie with Willie Mays and even tie the game in the 13th, but he grounded out to end it. He'll have to get his milestone against someone else.

At the end of the first month the Rays are 12-10 currently tied for second with the Red Sox in the AL East.

    One Deck:

Due to the tense situation in Baltimore, the TB VS BAL series will be held at Tropican Field, the O's will be the home team. Rays officials and game production staff are working as best they can to accommodate the Orioles. Owner Stu Sternberg said Raymond could even sprout some wings if he wanted as long as they weren't orange. Perhaps Oriole Bird will make the trip.

Re: 2015 Tampa Bay Rays season

Jake McGee had a second rehab outing with Class A Advanced Charlotte last night, he pitched one inning , allowing no hits, striking out one and issued two walks.

The Rays/Orioles was a quick low scoring game. The Rays scored first in the top of the fourth, Cabrera walked and Longoria doubled to bring him to the plate. Then Loney singled to bring in Longoria. That would be the only scoring of the game. Rays take first game of the series 2-0. Game was played at 2 hours 19 minutes.

Te Orioles and Rays have faced each other 300 times since the Rays came into existence, last night's Ray's victory put them at 150-150.
Colome went 5 scoreless innings giving up three hits, no walks and struck out 6.
Tillman pitched 7 giving up 2 runs on three hits, two walks and struck out 7.

Jennings was scratched just before the game, he was going to try to push through pain, but manager Kevin Cash decided not to chance him doing more damage. Likely a decision is going to have to be made soon whether to send him to the DL or basically play with a 24 man roster. Tim Beckham took his place in the line-up.

It was all Orioles as Chris Archer struggled and Miguel Gonzalez with help from his defense shut down the Rays. The scoring started in the bottom of the third when Machado walked then Paredes singled.Jones lined out sending Machado to third and he scored on a single to left by Chris Davis. Pearce doubled in Paredes and Davis to take a 3-0 lead.

In the 6th Caleb Joseph homered to center to give the Orioles a 4-0 lead and win. Series is tied 1-1.

Archer went 6 innings, giving up 6 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks and had 5 Ks, his ERA went up to 1.64.
Gonzalez pitched 7.2 with 4 hits, no runs, one walk and struck out 6.
    Beckham went 1-for-3.
