Chris Archer (9-8, 2.54 ERA), got a no-decision the last time he pitched against the White Sox on June 13. Looking for a win after four straight losses, in his last outing against the Tigers he gave up two unearned runs and struck out 11 in seven innings.

Chris Sale (9-6, 3.20), last faced the Rays on June 14, and despite striking out 12 in 6. 2 innings, he took the loss in a 2-1 Rays win. He hopes to avoid a rpeat of his last start against the Red Sox when he was touched for seven runs on a career hit 12 hits.

The match-up on paper should be a battle of the Chris', will it be low scoring or will someone not be on their game and get hammered?

Jose Abreu is hitting .556 with a home run and three RBIs against Archer.

The Rays claimed Daniel Nava off waivers from the Boston Red Sox, he was designated for assignment last week. He was hitting .152 (10-for-66) in 29 games while missing two months with a left thumb sprain.bHis best season as in 2013, he hit .303 with 12 home runs, 66 RBIs, and an .832 OPS in 134 games during the Red Sox run as World Series Champions. Boxberger then gives up an unintentional walk to Garcia scoring Eaton for the 6-5 win.
    They avoid the sweep.

Even with the 5 runs all in the first, Erasmo Ramirez went six innings, with those five runs on six hits, two walks and struck out two. He had allowed one earned run or fewer in seven of his previous eight starts. Boxberger took the loss.

Carlos Rodon went 4.2 innings giving up four runs on six hits, two walks and struck out three, has lasted fewer than seven innings in each of his starts, getting just one victory in his last seven games. Dave Robertson got the win.

After the game there was disagreement between statements made by Kevin Cash and Brad Boxberger about the strategy.

Asdrubal Cabrera had four hits, including three singles, a double and two RBIs. He singled in the seventh, but ended up in a run down with Alexei Ramirez when he over ran second base. He was called out as Ramirez dove to tag him. Play was challenged but after 1 minutes 50 seconds the call on the field was upheld. He was hit on a throw by Casali during a steal by Adam Eaton, he stayed in for two more batters, but when he went to his knees he was removed. Tests showed no concussion, he is expected to be fine.He extend his hitting streak to nine games.

This is the Rays eighth walk-off loss, most in the AL and tied for most n the Majors.

Heading down to the Trop soon, too soon for line-ups, but the probables are....

Noah Syndergaard (6-5, 2.66 ERA) held the Nationals to two runs in eight innings with nine strike outs in a 5-2 win that completed a sweep. He holds a 6-3 record and 1.80 ERA in his last nine starts, striking out 66 while walking 14 in 60 innings. Grady Sizemore is the only current Ray to have faced him, he has a .667 BA with two hits.

Nathan Karns (6-5, 3.37 ERA) allowed a two run home run to White Sox Jose Abreu in a 5-4 win on Monday, he was relieved after 5.1 IP. He has 10 no-decisions in 21 starts this season. Yoenis Cespedes is the only current Met to face Nate, he has one home run.

Re: 2015 Tampa Bay Rays season

Oh, Duda day! I haven't seen a regular season crowd like last night in a very long time, I think we need to invite the Mets back more often. I think there were more than the announced crowd, they lifted some tarp areas and standing room in the Porch and around the 360 was massive. Between their fans, regular and part time Rays attenders, the new Honor Pass, the Brazer Fedora giveaway and Gator Nation the Trop was full and rockin'. It might irritate home crowds to have such a high number of opposing in the house, but I find it creates good banter, the cheering and jeering contest is quite fun.

The Mets started it off, Granderson led off with a home run to center, 1-0. Murphy doubled, Céspedes singled, Duda doubled in both Murphy and Céspedes to quickly take a 3-0 lead.

In the Rays half, Jaso hit a ground rule double, Sizemore homered cutting the lead to 3-2. Loney singled, Cabrera singled, Nava singled to load the bases. Kiermaier singled, Loney and Cabrera scored. Nava went to third and KK advanced to second on the throw, jamming his thumb during the play. He stayed in the game, Casali grounded out, Rays sent all nine players to the plate and took a 4-3 lead.

In the second, Granderson homered again to tie the game 4-4.

Casali did leave the game after the second inning, he was struck on the head by a back swing from Travis d'Arnaud.

Karns and Syndergaard settled a bit.

In the 4th, Jaso walked, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch, Longoria reached on a infield single (don't think I have ever seen him run so fast, he and KK must have a bet), Jaso scored, 5-4 Rays.

Both team had minimal chances to score more, McGee struck out the side in the 8th and Boxberger retired the side in order in the 9th.

Syndergaard went 4 innings giving up 5 runs on 8 hits, two walks with six Ks for the loss, he is now 0-5 on the road. He snapped an 18 inning streak of issuing no walks.

Karns went five giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, two walks with 8 Ks for the win. Rays pitchers collect 15 Ks on the night.

Granderson tied Jose Reyes (2006) for the team record in a single season with his sixth leadoff homer this year. Granderson has 34 in his career. It was his 17th career multihomer game.

Sizemore has five homers in 21 games with the Rays.

Duda has 10 RBI in seven games this month. He tied his career high with his 27th double.

Bartolo Colon (10-10, 4.72 ERA) recorded his first win since June 12 on Monday in Miami, holding the Marlins to one run in eight innings, while striking out five and walking none in the Mets' 12-1 victory. He is 9-5 with a 4.00 ERA in 23 starts against Tampa Bay, including an 0-4 mark in his last seven. This season he has walked two or fewer batters in 20 of his 21 starts. At 42 years old his 7-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio (98-to-14 in 127 2/3 innings) ranks third in Major League Baseball.

Against Colon, Asdrubal Cabrera is 1-for-14 and Longoria is 4-for-11.

Archer (10-8, 2.54) earned his first win since June 23 when he out dueled Chris Sale in Chicago on Tuesday, holding the White Sox to two runs over seven innings while striking out seven in Tampa Bay's 11-3 victory. His 180 strikeouts (in 148 2/3 innings) is the fourth-highest total in MLB, and his 10.9 K/9 mark ranks first among right-handers.

Since May 30, the Rays are 15-3 when an opponent has started a left-hander, but just 16-28 during that span when facing a righty.

Re: 2015 Tampa Bay Rays season

Kevin Kiermaier received his Heart and Hustle award before the game.

First inning looked like it might be a good pitcher's duel.

In the second, Uribe, Flores, Plawecki walked, then Granderson walked sending Uribe home, 1-0.Murphy singled in Flores and Plawecki to once again give an early 3-0 lead to the Mets.

In the third, Shaffer singled, Rivera doubled, Jaso hit a sac fly to score Shaffer, Rays on the board 3-1.

Archer settled down, allowing the Rays a chance.

In the 5th, Shaffer led off with a single, Guyer singled, Rivera sacrificed moving the runners, Jaso doubled them both home, game tied 3-3.

In the 7th, Shaffer led off with a home run to left off Colon, giving the Rays a 4-3 lead.

Both teams had a couple chances to score more, but the Rays held on at 4-3 to take the final game and the series.

There were two challenges in the game, in the seventh, Forsythe barehanded a ball throwing to first to get Granderson, call on the field was out, replay overturned the call making him safe.

In the 9th, home plate umpire ruled a hit by pitch to Lagares by McGee, Rays challenged and call was upheld.

Colon went 6.2 innings giving up four runs on 9 hits, no walks and no strike outs for the loss, had his majors-best 13th start without giving up a walk. It's the most by an NL pitcher in his team's first 111 games since Atlanta's Greg Maddux in 2001He is just one of five active players Alex Rodriguez, LaTroy Hawkins, David Ortiz and Torii Hunter). who made their major league debuts before the Rays played their first game in 1998.

Archer went six giving up three runs on four hits, four walks and struck out 10 with a no-decision, Cedeno took the win with a scoreless seventh, McGee the save.

Jaso drove in three runs on the day.

Daniel Murphy, got two of the three RBIs, he has now hit safely in six straight games, going 11 for 25, with three doubles, two home runs and four RBIs.

Another good game for Shaffer he is making a case for himself to stick around for a while with the game winning homer.

Catch of the day goes to Michael Conforto running hard to make a backhanded grab in foul territory on a Grady Sizemore's fly ball.

Kiermaier was out of the line up but pinch ran in the seventh. Casali is reported to be fine, d'Arnaud texted him an apology.

Asdrubal Cabrera had his 11-game hitting streak and a stretch of six straight multi-hit games both end.

New York struck out 28 times over the past two games.

The Rays have homered in a season-high eight straight games, which is their longest streak since April 15-May 3, 2013, when they homered in 17 consecutive contests. They are 33-30 in games decided by two or fewer runs this season and took back-to-back series for the first time since June 17-21.

The Mets still holding in first place, gap down to 1.5 games. Rays get back to .500 now six games back in the division.

    Rays off tomorrow.

    On Deck:

Braves have usually drawn pretty well in the past, maybe we can keep a decent attendance going for these weekdays games.
