A few more tid-bits on that 18 inning game last night/this morning...


There was an MLB record 21 pitchers used in the game.

The Rays are now the seventh club in history to use 11 pitchers in a single game, no team has ever used 12.

The game was 6 hours and 54 minutes, the longest in Orioles history and the longest in both time and innings for the Rays.

It was the 5th game this season that went at least 18 innings, there were 4 in 2006 and 6 in 1972, so kind of rare for there to be so many.

At one point there was a Wookie in the Rays dugout (it was Star Wars night) not sure if that is a first.

Called up pitcher Enny Romero from Durham to make his ML debut against the Baltimore Orioles today, He pitched 4.2 innings, gave up 4 walks, 1 hit and no runs. The Rays lead 3-0 in the 8th.

Desmond Jennings came up limping after leading off the 6th with a bunt, a tight left hamstring he will be day to day. He was scratched from the line-up Friday with neck stiffness, but entered the game in the 9th, then played the remaining 9 innings in CF.

They purchased the contract of right-hander J.D. Martin from Durham.

Word is they will activate reliever Jesse Crain on Monday.

LHP Frank De Los Santos was traded to Chicago White Sox for a PTBNL.

RHP J.D. Martin was DFA'd

Crain was activated. Cobb was named AL Player of the week.

Orioles Manny Machado was injured in the top of the 7th running to first on a single, it appears he twisted the knee when touching the bag. The O's were leading the game 4-2, but the Rays loaded the bases in the bottom half. Will Myers hit a two run single to tie the game. James Loney pinch hitting for Sean Rodriguez, hit a lead off homer in the 9th for another Rays walk off and a 4 game sweep.

In yet another one of Joe MADdon moves he putt slumping Matt Joyce in the lead off spot, Matty J lead off with a homer. Moore to be honest didn’t pitch all that well, somehow he managed to hold the Yankees scoreless as did the rest of the team.


Escobar and Lobaton both left the game last night with injuries, Escobar ‘s ankle and Lobo's elbow. Both are day to day. Jennings was again left out of the lineup nursing that tight hamstring.

The Rays' fan in me is so proud that they actually are responsible for eliminating the Evil Empire from play-off contention. The baseball fan in me though is a tad bit sad that there will be no Mo in the play-offs in his final season.

The Rays sweep the Yanks inching closer to a WC spot and I was boo hooing over Mo.....dammit!

The Rays won the game and series but it was Mo's night. The Rays have reached a few small victories.. they have won 90 games for the fourth season in a row, the longest active streak in the majors. Rays won 12 of 19 meetings with the Yanks this season and out homered New York 26-9, the largest margin ever by a single opponent against New York. It was also the first sweep by the Rays at Yankee Stadium.

I feel the Yanks need to seriously think about putting themselves in rebuild mode.


Rays Rookie Hazing took place after the series.



Tim Beckham, Jake Odorizzi, Wil Myers, Chris Archer, Josh Lueke, trainer Jamie Nelson (banana), Alex Torres (boob man), Jeff Beliveau (nurse) and I am not sure who is behind Beliveau in the blue dress and Jamey Wright is Gene Simmons.






Jeremy Hellickson is scheduled to start tonight against Dickey (we don't do very well against him), it had been rumored that Enny Romero might get the start due to Hellboy's struggles of late.

Helly was doing alright until the 4th, but 2 throwing errors by Longo and one by Fuld have lead to 6 runs in the 4th and 5th.

Okay, I shouldn't have taken away credit from the Blue Jays hitters, but my Gold Glove third baseman has me a little discombobulated at the moment.

The Rays have scored 6 runs in the first and already ran off P Todd Redmond. Still a lot of game left.

Rays scored another run in the 4th, but the Jays touch Moore for 3 in the 6th. McGee replaces Moore, Jays are on their 6th pitcher.

Jays tack on one more, 7-4 Rays in the 7th, Peralta now pitching.

Now 7-6....Jays score 2 more in the 8th after Rodney replaces Peralta.
