Re: Rays 2011 off-season......
Yes, Matt Bush had been picked up by the Rays last off season and started with the Stone Crabs before becoming a Biscuit. The Rays have been pleased with his progress both physically and behaviorally.
The Rays have gotten quite a rep for offering players second chances and helping others stay in the confines of baseball in some capacity, like giving jobs to Rocco Baldelli and Brain Anderson after illness and injuries cut short their careers. If Matt keeps out of trouble and keeps developing, even if he doesn’t get the ML chance with the Rays maybe someone else will take notice and give him a chance later down the road. He’s still young, there is time to turn his life and his career around. I am sure if the Maddon thinks he can help the club now he'll give him a shot.

The Rays have claimed left-hander John Gaub off of waivers, the Cubs announced. The Cubs also announced that they placed right-hander Marcos Mateo on the 60-day disabled list to create 40-man roster space.
Gaub, 26, appeared in four games for the 2011 Cubs after spending most of the season in the minor leagues. He posted a 3.42 ERA with 12.2 K/9 and 6.5 BB/9 in 55 1/3 innings for the Cubs' Triple-A Iowa affiliate. Left-handed relievers J.P. Howell and Jake McGee made the Rays' Opening Day roster and Cesar Ramos and Alex Torres are minor league options.
That's a shit load of walks so hopefully the Rays can find him some control
