Not a terrible deal. He has to improve a lot to be effective though!
Then he probably came to the right place.
Luke Scott signs a one year deal with an option for 2013. I really hope this doesn't end the Rays pursuit of Pena or Damon.
I welcome Luke Scott, but according to Johnny it does end his hopes of returning and he is NOT happy about it! I was hoping he would return and I still hold out hopr for a Pena return.
"It's an unhappy day"
The top 5 signs I look for to be assured that we are at the half way mark of waiting for spring training.
5) Rays finally making a couple moves. Signing Fernando Rodney and Luke Scott and in ongoing negotiations with Maddon for an extension.
To make room for Scott the Rays DFA’D C Nevin Ashley. Scott will get $5M in 2012, and has a $6M option in 2013, or a $1M buyout. With incentives, he could make another $2-million over the two years.
4) Reports of players (including a handful of Rays) voluntarily showing up to start workouts and check with trainers on their rehab status at various ST sites.
3) Passing of the deadline for arbitration filing.
The total for the league is 142. The Rays have 5...... David Price, JP Howell, BJ Upton Burke Badenhop and Jeff Niemann.
2) Announcement of the Rays Fan Fest date which is set for Feb. 18th.
1) Roy Halladay sightings in our small town.
Glory hallelujah!!!!!
Rays & Howell avoid arbitration reaching an agreement on a one-year deal for $1.35M. There are incentive bonuses for 45 and 60 innings pitched that could raise it to $1.4 M.
I guess since Baltimore is always toiling in mediocrity...or worse, I don't pay much attention to the Orioles. So I didn't really remember this stuff: New Rays DH Luke Scott controversial but a good guy, former teammates insist - Tampa Bay Times
But he seems to be respected by former teammates, so I am not sure "controversial" is the word to use. He should be a nice boost at DH.
3 more avoid arbitration, Upton gets 1 year $7M, Price $4.35 and Badenhop $1.075M.
Niemann will go to hearing. Rays are 4-0 under Friedman.
He's only "controversial" because he is outspoken about his political views which happen to lean right. Most athletes keep their views to themselves or don’t get flack if they lean left because the majority of the right believe in free speech. Okay, that’s not really fair cause the left do believe in free speech…….well, as long as they agree with what you have to say, if they don’t you’re “controversial”.
He’s been accused of being a racist from outside sources because as everyone knows a white person isn’t allowed to “police” his non-white friends/teammates behavior . Only the same race is allowed to bring someone’s negative antics up to their face. The teammates know better, they don't see white, black, brown, yellow or spray tan..they see TEAMMATE being an idiot.....must stop TEAMMATE from becoming bigger idiot.
His third strike is, he openly shows his religious devotion which seems to be very unpopular right now, just look at the criticism of Tebow.
He’s a ball player ….as long as he isn’t threatening to shoot any of his ethnic teammates while spouting the Lord’s prayer, stays healthy , hits for a decent average and helps my club, he can be as “controversial” as he wants.
Who knows? Perhaps this post will land me the label of being "controversial."
I couldn't care less about his political views or if he's racist. I just want to know about the health of his shoulder and if he will be able to regain his power.
I may be the only one, but I think this is cool..........Joe Maddon tweeting pix from Greece..
