Moneyball to Treading Water A’s @ Long and Small Ball Rays 8/5-8/7

    Probables

    Moscoso VS Niemann

    McCarthy VS Cobb

    Cahill VS Price

The A’s are coming off a sweep at the hands of an unusually offensive Mariners team.

The Rays just took a series from the Jays with a lot of help from two of the newbies with an unusual offensive explosion of their own.

    Tonight’s match-ups

Guillermo Moscoso is 4-5 with a 3.41 ERA and has been as hot and cold as the team itself. Posting a 1.75 ERA in 6 starts before the break, but a 7.31 ERA since. Showing some signs of improvement recently, giving up just 2 runs over 6 1/3 innings against the Twins in his most recent start.

Jeff Niemann, is 5-4 with a 3.51 ERA and pitched his fifth consecutive quality start against Seattle his last time out, holding the Mariners just three hits in 6 2/3 scoreless innings. He also set a career high 11 strikeouts. He went 3-0 with a 1.06 ERA over five starts in July.

Hideki Matsui has a 12-game hitting streak, batting .521 with 11 runs, six doubles, two homers and 10 RBIs.

Evan Longoria has 40 RBIs in 44 games since June 11, tops in the American League in that time and is leading the ML with 19 walks in his first 17 games since the break.

P Grant Ballfour will be making his first trip to the Trop since becoming a member of the Athletics. The Thunder from Down Under was a key piece of the Rays run to the WS in 2008.

The Rays have signed AZ State 3B Riccio Torrez, the fourth-round pick in the 2011 FYP Draft. The Rays have signed 16 of their top 21 picks.

So the Go Gos brought them luck and the Goo Goo's did not.

After an offensive explosion last night and a very good outing for Niemann, just short of a complete game it was all Oakland tonight.

Cobb was taken to the hospital after tonight's game, he was complaining of soreness in his hand, hopefully they will have an update on him tomorrow.

A's lead 4 -3 in the bottom of the 7th...looking for the series win.

Edit: Longoria just homers off Balfour to tie it at 4.

Now the pitching is failing, the catcher can't get a runner to save his life and gusy aren't coming clean about being hurt, what a mess.
