Jaywalking Yankees @ Sleepless in ST Pete Rays 7/18-7/21

    Probables

    Burnett VS Cobb

    Colon VS Hellickson

    Garcia VS Price

    Sabathia VS Shields

The Yankees coming off a 4 game set against the Jays where they split one game having 16 runs scored against them.

The Rays coming off a 3 game set losing the series to the BoSox 2-1, including a 5 hour marathon with the losing score of 1-0.

Both teams facing each other with multiple issues, even though both teams have maintained 2 of the 3 best records in the AL, but the Rays are fading fast, they need a few here to stay within striking distance.

AJ Burnett is 8-7 with 4.15 ERA, his last outing was memorable but not because of his pitching. He has had a roller coaster year.

Alex Cobb was recalled again from Durham to take the hill tonight for the Rays, he is 2-0 in 5 starts and a 3.41 ERA.

The Rays made a lot of moves today calling up Cobb and LHP Alexander Torres. They placed C Jose Lobaton on the DL, he injured his left knee last night and called up Robinson Chirinos who will be making his ML debut tonight behind the plate. RHP Juan Cruz was also placed on the DL with a right groin strain and RHP Adam Russell was DFA’d.

Robinson Chirinos came along with Fuld, Guyer and a couple others from the Cubs in the Garza/Perez deal. HE is a converted infielder making the transition to catcher 3 years ago,

    The Hit List

Jeter needs one to pass al Kaline, he tied him on Saturday. He needs three to catch Wade Boggs.

Okay, 5 hrs 44 mins to be exact, I watched the marathon, too. BTW, it's M'aam.

You know the Rays have more hits in the 2nd tonight then they did in those 16.

One was a double for Chirinos on his first ML at bat.

In the “weird things always seem to happen when the Rays are featured on a National TV Broadcast"…

During the Boston Marathon on Sunday night/Monday morning a foul ball off Sean Rodriguez hit a light bulb on the cat walk causing a short delay. It was the ESPN Sunday Night game. The game last night was also shown on ESPN and if things weren’t going rough enough for the team, the Trop got hit by lightning causing a bank of lights to go out causing an 18 minutes delay to reset them. The Yanks passed some of the time taunting the rays mascot Raymond. To top things off they lose both showcased games.

Poor Alex Torres didn’t even get a cup of coffee with the team, he got a donut..to go…arriving at the park less than an hour and a half before first pitch and making his ML debut in the 9th inning, he was send back down to Durham right after the game. He allowed a single and three walks, one intentional to force in the go ahead run so don’t call us we’ll call you. They called up RHP Dane De La Rosa.

Robinson Chirinos got his first start going 1-3 with a double and a run scored.

The Yanks also had a bit of bad luck with Ramiro Pena going on the disabled list Monday. He awoke Monday morning with severe abdominal pain, rushed to the hospital to have his appendix removed. Especially sad that it was his 26th birthday.

We could just go 9 and be here 5 hours with Bartolo the snail on the mound, he's almost as painful to sit through as Steve Trachsel.
