    Tonight’s match ups

The last time these two met was the last game before the break. It was a true pitcher’s duel but 2 costly mistake by the Rays one by Shields himself gave the 1-0 win to the Yankees.

Sabathia has a 7 game winning streak, 11-1 since May 19 with a 1.68 ERA in his last seven. Against a team that can’t score runs to save their butts doesn’t look hopeful.

Shields has been one of the victims of the poor offense, even when he hasn’t been his sharpest he has usually pitched well enough to keep it close. He did have a rough outing coming off the break against the Red Sox giving up six runs in six innings on Saturday.

    Worth noting

Brent Gardner stole his 30th base last night, becoming the first Yank since Alfonso Soriano with 30 or more stolen bases in consecutive seasons. Soriano did it from 2001-03.

Dane De La Rosa made his debut becoming the 12th different rookie used by the Rays this season. Rays record is 16 from 2001.

Shields (145 strikeouts) and David Price (137 strikeouts) have the most combined strikeouts (282) of any American League teammates, and the second most in the Major Leagues behind Philadelphia's Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay (284).

The Yankees have had 17 players (11 currently) on the disabled list this season for the most in the ML.

Someone must have spiked Longo's wheaties he actually got on base more than once int he game and homer to boot.

Shields was incredible and so was CC no real surprise there. Sorry to mess up the birthday party there CC.

Who knows if this is going to last, but the Rays have had much more success on the road this season than home and they have a nice long raod trip coming up.
