    Today’s match ups

Shields struggled a bit early on Tues. but settled in going 6 innings with 3 runs on 6 hits, but the Rays failed to capitalize with men on base losing to the Twins 3-2.

Sabathia dominated in his last start against the Indians going 7 scoreless innings giving up 5 hits, striking out 11 with 2 walks in the 9-2 drumming.

Now that all the hoopla is over, the rivals can get back to the business of holding and gaining ground in the AL East before the break.

Andy Sonnanstine was optioned to Durham, Brandon Guyer was recalled and may get to start.

Re: The Hobbling Rays @ The Historic Yankees 7/7-7/10

So, the verdict is, the Yankees widen the gap.

I'd like to blame this one the lack of offense, but it really was a pitcher's stare down and one blinked. Shields making a pick off attempt on Cano ( he's been the most proficient at it all season) threw over Rodriguez at third allowing the sole run of the game to score.

With the PPD game the Yanks take 2 of the 3 played.

Rays now 5.5 games back. They need to do something though about the anemic offense if they have any hope of staying close in this race, the pitching is the only reason they have stayed close.

Guyer was sent back down to Durham after the game. The Rays didn’t make a counter move and will evaluate Davis after the break before making a decision.
