After a night full of the yips especially from Longoria, he gets to be the hero with a walk off homer.

The starting pitching for the majority of the game on both sides was spectacular, I was actually surprised Cueto with a still reasonable pitch count to continue even after giving up the two singles in the 8th and then 2 outs got pulled, good move for the Rays though. Price racked up 12 Ks and seven scoreless innings but he was about topped out in pitch count. I really thought the Rays were going to lose another home game when Bruce tied it up in their ninth.

    BTW, Chicks dig the Longo.

Someone please explain to me why everytime it seems like the Reds lose this way its because Duhhhsty rears his stupid head and decides to pitch to the teams best hitter.

Probably looked at the stats at the Trop which have been dismal.

Re: Gomes’ Reds @ “Gloveless One’s” Rays 6/27-6/29

Both teams fought hard for their excellent pitchers last night, but Longo redeemed himself after a game full of yips on Monday, miscues in the field and a rare base running blunder. He went back to the gloves saying his hands were hurting too much, I guess so.

The pitch speed gun was showing Price at 98 on many of his pitches and we got pizza courtesy of our old friend Jonny Gomes.

    Today’s match-ups…..

Volquez got off to a good start after being recalled earlier in the month, but has returned to his “old“ ways his last couple of starts. He has given up 8 earned runs, 14 hits and 7 walks in 9 1/3 innings. Is it his turn for redemption?

The only pitcher that has been better than Shields recently is General Lee in the “other” league. Juego G has let up only one earned run on 12 hits in 27 innings, with 24 Ks and 4 walks. He has pitched at least 7 innings in 9 of his last 10 starts. Entering today’s game he has 121 2/3 innings already under his belt.

    Worth noting…

Datdude has been the most productive of the Red’s line up recently, he is 12-for-24 with one home run and 6 RBIs during the IL set.

Zobrist leads the ML with 27 doubles to go with his 40 extra-base hits, ranking him second behind RSawx Adrian Gonzalez.

    Tid bit….

Johnny D is one hit away from tying Ted Williams for 71st on the all-time list with 2,654. On Sunday Damon joined Jeter and ARod as the only active players with more than 1,600 runs scored.

It seemed as I watched the broadcast on Mon. sounds of the crowd was heavy with Red’s supporters, as I recall it was the same many seasons ago when they would come here. I had the pleasure of chatting with several Ohioans before and after the game. A few have transplanted to FL, including a couple from Hazelton who now live in Sarasota and a guy from Sidney now in Orlando. It was the biggest crowd I have seen on a Tues. game this season not including the Yanks or RSox. They need to invite the Reds more often.
