There is no way that Choi plays two seasons in the majors again. He is simply not that good. He is a good option at the AAA level if someone gets hurt but not worth taking up space for a whole year on the 25 man roster.Hee-Seop Choi has reportedly signed a minor league deal with the Rays with an option for 2008.
The deal could be worth up to $2 million if Choi spends the two seasons in the majors. His chances of having a real shot at competing for the first-base job could hinge on the trade of an outfielder. As things stand now, the Rays may play Akinori Iwamura at second and Jorge Cantu at first. If Carl Crawford or Rocco Baldelli is traded, B.J. Upton likely would move to the outfield, putting Iwamura at third and keeping Cantu at second.
