Strike 3 Sim League Looking back...

Its cold outside, I cant go anywhere, and I can only watch Sportscenter so many times. So heres a look back at the great firesale of the Minnesota Twins of 2023-2024. Feel free to continue this with your own "firesales" or trades you wish you could undo/redo.

    Minnesota trades:
SP Donald Degroat, 3.0 stars, $6,000,000
    Total: $6,000,000

    Tampa Bay trades:
    1b Enrique Vallejo, 5.0 prospect
    SP Joshua Gehring, 4.5 prospect
    MR Philip Shurtz, 5.0 prospect
    Total: 0

One of the cornerstones during the high water mark of the Minnesota Twins. Vallejo was a servicable major leaguer until he was forced out by better players (Hickmon/St. John). Gehring was a nice stopgap early on and been a bottom of the rotation starter with his moments of not being completely worthless. Shurtz flopped and sitting on a dream as a free agent.

    Minnesota Trades:
    1b Milo Kotter 5.0 star 12.56 mil
    Salary Subtotal: 12.56 mil

    Atlanta Trades:
CF Dale "Vapor Lock" Ries 5.0 star 300k
SP David "Bomber" Nutt 5.0 star 300k
MR Benito Mateo 5.0 star (will be converted to a SP) MLC.
    Salary Subtotal: 600k

Ran out of time at the deadline, thought it was the last chance to move him. Ries has been a 4th outfielder, Nutt was a finer setup reliever than starter and left as a free agent to SF, Mateo victim of the numbers game never really had the big boom I thought was possible with his control/movement.

    Minnesota trades:
RF Alex Morabito, 5.0 Star RF, $17,000,000
1.5 Million for This year and Next year
    Total: $17,000,000 (minus the 1.5 M)

    Arizona trades:
OF Bernardo Barco, 2.5 Star LF, $12,360,767
SS Earle Olson, 5.0 Spect SS, MLC
    3B Sergio Tejada, 3.5 Spect 3B, MLC
    Total: $12,360,767

Earle Olson is Earle Olson been a very good player. Barco just knows how to hit, traded to Milwaukee later. Tejada was looked at as a potential 3b in the future, numbers game made him expendable.

    Minnesota Trades:
    SP Mike McCollough 4.0 stars $ 6,000,000
    Total: $ 6,000,000

    SF Trades:
SS Val Hunt 5.0 spect MLC
Ca Fernando Peña 4.0 spect MLC
SP Harold Richardson 5.0 spect MLC
    Total: MLC

Mike McC was an attempt to prolong the run, there wasnt the depth remaining to withstand father time (damn him). Hunt's been a pleasant surprise I didnt think he'd be near the slugger that he's been. Took a while for that power to get close to his talent. Pena was an underacheiver I thought and traded to Florida for Yogi Berra... I mean Douglas Blair. Richardson struggled in the majors lost MAJOR movement and has bounced back and forth from AAA to MLB.

    MIN trades
Brian Carlson (MR, $300,000, 1.0 star)
    salary subtotal: $300,00

    TOR trades
Jesse Cone (3B, MLC, 2.5 star spect)
Jamel Malinowski (3B, MLC, 2.0 star spect)
    salary subtotal: N/A

Cone has been a productive hitter in the majors. Malinowski is still a work in process, probably wont be more than a solid utility glove guy.

    Minnesota Trades:
RF Bernardo "Sunshine" Barco 2.5 star $ 3,680,000
MR Kenneth Mueller 3.5 spect MLC (AA)
    Salary Subtotal: 3.68 mil

    Milwaukee Trades:
SP Pedro Cruz 4.5 spec MLC (A)
2b William Long 3.0 spec MLC (AA)
    Salary Subtotal: N/A

Cruz went from being above average, great, below average, back to average. Long is starting to get a look in the majors.

    Seattle sends:
SS Eugene Kim (3.0 spec) MLC
SP Alexis "Boo" Berrios (3.0 stars) $ 10,000,000
    Total: $ 10,000,000

    Minnesota sends:
3B Sergio Tejada (3.5 spec) MLC
    SP Ramon Dapena (1.0 stars) $ 5,500,000
    Total: $ 5,500,000

Kim traded to Arizona later. Berrios flopped and allowed to walk in FA.

    Re: Looking back...

I rather enjoyed my fire sale last season. It produced 100 plus wins. Somehow.

I think I wish I had kept Hage, but he did land me some decent pieces to build on. I am glad he won something, with St. Louis, before he left us. I remember he produced Romero. Which, I regretting dealing Romero so much I had to get him back.
