I've been trying to decide between General and realmofotalk.

In the end, I went with General because no ones done more with less. He had cap issues, yet still managed to keep Boston in the playoff hunt, and then eventually won the East. He added Losoya in a trade, who was a castoff from DET as a salary dump and then flipped instantly from Philly, and Losoya puts up career numbers. He acquires James Mann, who quietly hits 21 bombs and bats over .300.

Boston finished tied with the Man from California, Saber, for the best record in the AL.

To me, with his hands tied like they were with the money and a farm system exhausted by previous moves to acquire talent, no one did more with less. Thats why I vote for General.

Yeah but the move worked for him too, lol. I know I offered 17 million to LaChance back then, so 22 million to ensure landing him isnt too far out of the realm of possibility I spose.

What's the genius behind spending 20 mill a year to get a player that everyone knew was great? George Steinbrenner could have done that.

Theres no genius. THe point is, it worked out for him, and even with that 22 million on the books, he still made moves that got him the division crown.

Agree with that, but sometimes a big FA signing is just what a team needs to get them over the hump.

I would have to with HafDawg as GM of the year though. Took a team that had never won more than 87 games and finished the year with 99 wins, a division title dethroning the Twins who had won the AL Central 5 straight years, and then going on to win the World Series. Also had the 3rd best Pyth record in the league if that means anything.

What's your excuse for never having won your division?

Like I really needed a division crown to knock your team out of first round of the playoffs twice to date. Besides, the reward for winning the AL East this season turned out to be getting swept by Detroit in 3 games.
