    Cardinals Ryan Franklin Released

    Cardinals released RHP Ryan Franklin.
Franklin began the season firmly entrenched as St. Louis' closer, but he blew a save on Opening Day and it's been all downhill since. The 38-year-old right-hander allowed nine home runs and 44 total hits in just 27 2/3 innings this season. He could decide to simply retire.
As someone who follows the Cards, IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!! Franklin has been a disaster is every situation he has been put in. Closer, setup guy, mop up guy. All complete shit! I have a hard time seeing him latch on to another team but its possible.

Its a shame it came to this, but the Cardinals had to open a roster spot for someone that can produce.

LTR, just curious, why do you follow the Cards?

I grew up in Cards country and most of my friends are Cards fans. If I want to talk baseball with them, it has to be Cards. In order of teams I follow it goes 1. Giants 2. Cardinals 3. Rays 4. the rest.

Ahh. Maybe it's just the area I live in, but I can't stand Cards fans.

Then again, I can't stand most of the Cubs fans around these parts.

My grandpa was a huge Cardinals fan and it kind of rubbed off on my dad but my dad was just a fan in general and there's where it rubbed off on me. I had no team I rooted for til 1993. Vinegar Bend Mizell was a cousin of my grandpa's and he was an All Star for the Cardinals and eventual congressman in MO. I was surrounded by Cards country when they won in 2006, all by myself when the Giants won but I celebrated all damn week so eventually my friends joined in

Of course then the real question here is how did you become a fan of San Francisco's team?

I thought I have explained that but I will share it again. I use to collect baseball cards religiously and I came across Barry Bonds' cards and saw we shared the same birthday. I starting following him and then he started winning MVPs so I followed the Pirates a bit then Sid Bream and Francisco Cabrera broke my heart. Bonds then signed with the Giants and I just fell in love with the guys like Clark, Williams and Beck. Then I fell in love with the history of the team with Ott, Mays, McCovey, etc. and have been a Giants fan ever since
