    Cardinals Cards Re-sign Westbrook

Cardinals signed RHP Jake Westbrook to a two-year, $16.5 million contract with a mutual option for 2013.
He probably could have found more guaranteed years elsewhere in a weak market for free agent starters, so the Cardinals did pretty to keep him. Westbrook, 33, went 10-11 with a 4.22 ERA over 33 starts between the Indians and Cardinals this past season, his first since missing the entire 2009 season following Tommy John surgery. He should continue to benefit in the National League.
First it looked like it would happen and then it looked like it wouldn't but now its finally done. The Cards have now locked down their rotation and for a fair price. Westbrook did well for the Cards during his short time there and with more help from Dave Duncan, he should get even better. Westbrook has a nice sinker and Duncan loves sinker ballers. Good signing for the Cards.

And now they can figure out how to get more productivity in the lineup to get back in the postseason. Not that Cincinnati fans want to hear of that idea.

That was a great trade they made to "put them over the top" at the deadline. And its just getting better.
