Cardinals Carpenter Set To Start Wednesday

The Cardinals expect Chris Carpenter to return from the disabled list on Wednesday and start that evening's game against the Cubs. Carpenter has been out since April 14 due to a strained left oblique muscle.

"I'm always excited about going out and competing," Carpenter said on Sunday morning. "That's what this is all about. That's what this game's about, and that's what pitching's about -- going out there and competing at this level, and I enjoy doing it. I'm looking forward to Wednesday night."

The 2005 Cy Young Award winner threw four simulated innings on Friday, followed by a bullpen session on Sunday morning. The club finally decided to pull the trigger on starting Carpenter after the Sunday session.

Good news for the Cardinals. Cardinals are currently back one game trailing the Brewers. Hopefully Carpenter can stay healthy this time and produce for the Cards.

The rest of the NL Central is not happy. Great news for the Cards.

Carpenter went 8 IP, the first six were perfect. He gave up just two hits but did not get a win out of his gem of a game. Carpenter is back to his dominant self.

Great start today by Carp. Its amazing that he can spend time on the DL like he does and then come back just as great as ever. Great pitching matchup today.

Cy Young possibility? He has 8 wins with a microscopic 2.28 era and 0.88 whip.
