    Cardinals Cards Add To Bullpen

The St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly ready to begin rebuilding their beleagured bullpen.

Pending a physical, the Cardinals are poised to sign left-handed reliever Trever Miller, who pitched in the American League-champion Tampa Bay Rays' bullpen last season, sources told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Miller's physical is scheduled for Thursday morning, the newspaper reported.

St. Louis was tied with Seattle for the major league lead in blown saves in 2008 with 31.

Miller, a 10-year veteran, was 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA and two saves last season for Tampa Bay. He held opposing left-handed batters to a .209 average.
Not exactly the best reliever on the market but this isn;t a bad signing. The Cards needed a lefty reliever and are hoping Miller can improve on his '08 season at the age of 35. Looks like he might be the lefty specialist LaRussa loves so much. Hopefully Dave Duncan can work his magic but the Cards definitely need to fine better relievers than Miller.

No deal has been finalized between the Cards and Miller yet. They are still ironing out the details. The Cards have also just offered Arthur Rhodes a deal supposedly a one year deal. Rhodes would most likely be THE left-handed specialist.

Cardinals signed LHP Trever Miller, who had been with the Rays, to a one-year deal.
It was supposed to be a two-year contract, but concerns about his shoulder caused the Cardinals to alter the original deal. Miller shouldn't have gotten a multiyear deal in this market anyway. The 35-year-old is an adequate specialist, but that's all he is. Left-handed hitters have hit .213/.294/.348 off him the last three seasons.
Finally this deal gets done!! Good job by the Cards doing their homework on Miller's shoulder and bringing it down to a one year deal. Cards are still looking at Arthur Rhodes as it looks like Perez will be their closer in '09.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with left-handed reliever Royce Ring.
Ring will earn $475,000 in '09. The lefty specialist posted an 8.46 ERA in 22 1/3 innings last season before being demoted to Triple-A. He has never pitched more than 25 major league innings in a season.
There's the answer we have all been looking for

I don't understand why the Cards aren't at least considering Hoffman.
